“The first game for the Dinner Ladies, and Head Coach Knarl was seeing some very familiar luck. The first act of the game (after Chaos winning the toss and getting a quick snap on the kick-off) was a block that inflicted a niggling injury on one of the blitzers, Anne. Turn 5 saw Kim give herself a niggling smashed hand trying to punch a Chaos Warrior (with some help from the girls, obviously), and immediately afterwards Bess contracted a recurring case of pinched nerve from a minotaur. Flora picked up a broken jaw in the same turn, so as turn 6 appproached, they were down three blitzers and a linewoman, and Chaos were rolling with the ball.

Some tactical dodging still allowed the Ladies to run interference with the 6 girls left on the field (having picked up a KO to add to the collection), leaving the Heroes of Hades needing to clear a path, hand off to a waiting beastman and go for it twice in the last turn of the half. On dropped hand-off later, and a rather diminished bunch of Amazons were astonished to be changing ends still at 0-0.

7 Dinner Ladies lined up against a full, and rather angry, Chaos team. As soon as the whistle went, they pelted down the field, except Mable and Theresa. Mable tried to pick up the ball, but her butter fingers saw it scamper away into Theresa's waiting hands. Unfortunately Theresa was only there to look after her thrower, and when several tonnes of Chaos Warrior came and politely requested the ball, she was only too happy to obliged. The beastmen were no better at picking it up than Mable, but as they knocked the ball across the field and she tried to dash towards it again, a huge tackle stunned her. From there it was a simple matter for the dirty great beasts to run in for a touchdown.

Then something incredible happened. 7 girls once again faced 11 creatures from Hell. The ball was picked up near the line and a phalanx of Amazons dashed into the face of the foe. The ball was spilled, blocks were thrown, and somehow out of it all came Nora with the ball, dashing for the end zone. The beastmen were hot on her heels, pushing her towards the sideline, but with one mighty blowed she shouldered the last one out of the way and charged home for the score.

They lined up again to kick off. It was still only the fourth turn, and they were still 7 against 11. The kick came down and sat in the Chaos endzone. The line of scrimmage erupted in the usual shoving match, but the ladies kept their feet. A beastman fumbled, and suddenly the chase was on, Mable and Rose finding their gaps and belting into the Chaos half.

A minotaur charged across to keep Mable busy whilst a beast picked up the ball, but - wonder of wonders - he attempted a pass, and the ball was quickly spilled. There was an opening for Minty, who ran through to shepherd the loose ball. Mable said goodbye to her hairy friend and dodged into the endzone. Rose joined Minty at the ball and snaffled it from under the careless beastman's nose. Alas, as she skipped away from him again, he angrily batted her to the ground, and the ball was out once more. Angry at Mable's escape, the minotaur rushed at Minty, but she casually stuck out a leg and brought the huge beast crashing to the floor, dazed by the force of its own fall.

With unexpected open field, and in the final Amazon turn of the game, Rose stood back up, picked up the ball, and calmly handed it off to Minty the minotaur wrestler. Minty ran towards the end zone where Mable was waiting, but perhaps remembering the thrower's clumsy hands of earlier, pushed herself a little harder and went in herself. Pandemonium erupted - the Amazons had done the unthinkable. Outscored their opponents 2-1 in the second half, with only 7 players on the field.

It was a victory, but as the crowds left the stadium, they were left to count the cost. With the team so mangled, the next match was going to be an uphill struggle, and no mistake, and most of the injuries threatened to haunt the team much further into the future.”
