“The curse hung over the dressing room like a smelly smog that resists all attempts at evictions. Teams from Snorriheim have long been known for their slow starts - they have had an swl start of season win % of less than 25%. Are they slacking in the off-seasons or is it just that they need to get fired up by a humiliation or two?
They went into this one up on players, skills and stars. But the Gladesville Huggers turned Gladesville Sluggers unleashed a blocking mayhem on the seekers. Despite going almost block for block, the Seekers missed their blocks for three turns running while the Sluggers sent a stream off the park in the crucial 2nd play of the first half. That was the deciding play - just outbashed well and proper, despite having a plethora of dodge and sidestep. I think the Sluggers missed a good chance to seal the match here when they left no-one deep to make a late dash for a try at the end of the first half.
Despite missing their chances, the game stayed relatively close, the seekers finally getting a play to the line to level it and instead of stalling, pushed for the win. With the sluggers out of rerolls coach Snorri thought their chances were pretty good, but the lads let him down - noone volunteered to hit the paddock from the ko bin and turned it over every turn (with rr's!) while the Sluggers played a near perfect play (only missing the beat once when it didn't matter anyway) and ran in for a well deserved win against a team that got themselves outplayed at every facet of the game.
After this humiliation, will the spark fire next game?”
