SWL Season 27: Gone's Slipper Conference League- Game 4

Another unbelievable finish for the Vermin, the third so far this season.

The opening half saw the Germans recieve, Manfred connected with Wilhelm, and the score was 1-0, with Travel Bug no longer bothering anyone aside from the grave diggers.

Manfred then refused to take part in the rest of the first half (and indead almost all the second) due to Morley's Revenge. This, combined wiith Wilhelm uncharacteristically failing a dodge, and KOing himself, meant Matt Tinsen had to lead a mainly rookie lineup safely through the remainder of the first half. He managed to do so, though with a rising amount of players badly hurt, and the first half ended 1-1 after Internet Dating scored.

The second half saw the Vermin still without Manfred, but like Jesus, Wilhelm returned, and also like Jesus, he seemed capable of the miraculous. Frankly, the Jesus/Wilhelm comparsions would go on all day if it were up to me...

Have you ever Seen Kaiser Wilhelm and Jesus at the same place at the same time? No? That's all I'm saying.

Wilhelm basically took on Crisis singled handedly, leaping into cages, and fighting for the ball. Against insane odds, he fought waves of stronger opponents, by himself, raking at the ball, while the rest of the Vermin looked on. After some very tight moments, eventualy Crisis managed to keep their cool, and Pretty Young Thing ran in a touchdown, with only enough time left on the clock for one final Vermin play.

The Verman have more fans than any other team in the SWL, and it was the German supporters who opened a hole in the Crisis goal-line defence, with a well placed rock knocking down Poetry Night, and leaving an enticing hole for Wilhelm.

They say the best players save something special for the big occasions, and the Vermin have got three of the finest players the SWL has ever seen. With time all but gone, Manfred, Wilhelm, and Matt all combined to get the ball to Wilhelm, shove him toward the opposing endzone, and see him sprint down for what was a match saving, and heartstopping touchdown.

Though the German fans were pleased to get away with a draw, their overall fanbase shrank slightly. An investigation by the Coach has revealed that no fans deserted the Verman due to the game, plenty simply died when their hearts couldnt take the suspense and tension of such a tough game.

Twahnlow Votes

3 votes- #14 Swinger : Given Knuckledusters for the game, he was a real handful. Strong, and with good tackling technique, he was the force behind Crisis today.

2 votes- #6 Internet Dating : Managed to end up with the ball during one of Wilhelm's raids on Crisis in the second half, and saved his team from what was looking like an embaressing situation,

1 vote- #3 Pretty Young Thing : Combined a first half TD with some good positional play.

Many thanks for a thrilling game Oz!

#15 Travel Bug – Dead (RIP)
A crazy game that upon reflection was a lost chance by the Crisis but we will be smarter for the outing.

Germans receive, and with their freak offense of a massive thrower and and legend Wilhelm are in the zone in 2 turns.

Then it gets crazy.

Numbers are against the Germans and they move into assassination mode with their killer blitzer Matt Tinsen. This allows us to stall it out and try to return fire in kind. Not the prettiest of halves for spectators but an excellent tactical move and good fun to play it out. Scores equal at the half.

We recieve to start again and it is to be a similar half with one bold exception. The cage is set but that damn Gutter Runner decides to go commando! Leaping, dodgeing, 2d against blitzes....crazy! A tough puzzle ensues...but we score on the 16th and think all is done.

Mistake!

I have never truly studied the 1turner puzzle...but my few looks at it suggested he didn't have the numbers. Then...instead of covering for it...I just set the basic front and got the rest back to rest. HUGE mistake! I should have swamped the line...or set the Ogre and ST4 Blitzer as corners...or, best of all....used all those fucking side step catchers to protect our win! Colossal error of judgment.

They of course score the it for the draw!

A moral victory for the Germans and could loom large in our quest to qualify for Premier.

Great fun nonetheless with a top coach and a legend team ;)

Thanks for the fun mate! (and the lesson)

3pts #10 Kaiser Wilhelm. Who else COULD it be???

2pts #3 Matt Tinsen Dangerous...even more so when he gets his support back

1pt #13 Alfred Rosenberg Dirty player notches a kill on his first foul of the game!
