#9 Giacomo Casanova – Smashed Knee (NI)
It was the final match of the season, and what an adrenaline rush it was. There looked to be nothing in it as the Bards and Bloodmoons squared off, scrambling over control of the field. A frantic hail mary pass by Gaston Leroux to the waiting hands of Edgar Poe went terribly wrong, and allowed the Orcs to gain possession of the ball. thankfully the quick actions of new team captain Marcus Aurelius saved embarrasment, and he ran the ball over the line to take the lead. An opeertunity to put the bards further in the lead in the last turn of the half, was missed when V'irg 'il was brought down by a stalwart black orc Badgut, as he tried to clear the ball of players for Leroux to get the ball for the waiting Poe.

The second half did not disappoint the fans. The orcs stormed to an early lead, and on the way, steam rollered over New boy blitzer Casanova, demonstrating that he was truly a lover and not a fighter, being carted of by the rag tag medic squad with a picnched nerve. Not one to miss an opertunity, he did manage to get five kisses and three dates with the female nurses, and was last seen limping of with a rather attractive (if some what greasy) sausage-in-a-bun seller.

The Bards came back strong, and blitzed throught the orc defense, setting up for their next touch down, but the smashed hand of Oskar wild could not get on the end of Leroux's wide throw. Lady Luck smiled on the bards though (some have suggested that she was promised dinner by Casanova), as the orc Zoglug brough himself down in possesion of the ball, and Wilde redeemed himself by collecting the ball with resolute hands, and putting the bards ahead once more.

Setting up again, the orcs pushed forward, with the Bards fighting them every bitter inch of the way. By turn 7, Madzod, in possession of the ball, had been cornered by 4 Bards, forcing him to dance through a corridor of death. And dance he did with the help of Lady Luck (who had realised she had been stood up by Casanova), psuhing out with his stocky orc limbs to equalise the game.

With only minutes left on the clock, the Bards set up in a last ditch attempt to win the match, but the orcs, being surprisingly fast on their feet, blitzed the tired Bards in a spectacular display of speed and forsight, penetrating a hole in their defence, and managed to position a blitzer under the kicked ball, deep in the bards half, and yards from the touch down line. Desperately the Bards, came back, with V' irg 'il breaking free of the line of scrimage to assist Victor von Hugo's blitz. Knocking the orc prone, von Hugo, knocked the ball on to the sure hands of Leroux, who Haol Maryed the ball deep into the orc half, towards the sprinting catcher Poe. With a heroic dive and roll, Poe collected the ball, with the touchdown line yards away, and seconds on the clock. As a final act of defience, a lone orc blitzer broke away from the pack, and tried to bring down the cathcer, but with sweat on his brow, teeth clenched and grinding with the excertion of the match, Poe avoided the tackle, and ran the ball across the line with 2 seconds on the clock, to win the match 3-2.

A fitting end to a tough season for the Bards, who have seen improvement in the face of adversity. With such determination, they look set to put up a good fight in the play offs for the up coming cup. They are the team to watch in the near future.
