OBBA League Cup, Season 5 - Final

After a quick restart so that oryx could purchase the wizard and star he forgot to get we got underway.

Handicaps for oryx were: It wasn't me on Duncan Welbourne and Bad Press (I think).

Knowing that we were likely to have to trim the team down to TR160 I wanted Taffy Davies to go out on a high as he was sure to retire after this game, whatever the outcome... so we tried to make sure he scored all the spp's. That was our plan.

Furthermore we had lost to oryx's lizards in the league where he out bashed us too! We had learnt our lesson, and this time came armed with more Tackle to deal with those quick scoring skinks. We too came with a wizard in case we needed to prone those ag1 lizards, as well as a chainsaw wielding loon... well, we had to burn the cash anyway!

The Khornets received. The first few blocks achieved little. But a prone saurus was too good an opportunity for the DP and Andrew Crofts left the field badly hurt. With the ball safely collected, the lizards reacted furiously to the foul, going straight for a blitz on John Barnes... I guess hoping to prone and foul back... however in their fury they rolled only push backs, so rerolled and got skulls... and the saurus Lewis Nyatanga left the field BH'd as well. It seems that the injury box was going to get full today!

The Chaos team marched ever onwards towards the endzone, but not before they had a damn good bash in the centre of the field. However Nobbla BH'd around turn 4/4. However, crucially Craig Bellamy failed a dodge and SI/niggled... the only lizard DP. Now both teams were DPless. The lizard threat had been severely reduced! Taffy decided the time was right to score around turn 5/4, leaving the lizards plenty of time to counter. 1-0.

The 10 lizards lined up, determined to show what they could do. After an initial thrust down their left, the lizards were checked and had to swiftly change to trying down their right. However, despite the chaos defence getting to mark the ball carrier, the little cold blooded git made his dodge and gfi and scored, 1-1, in turn 7/7.

The 2nd half saw the lizards receive and we feared that they would delay and score giving us no time to counter. They were tricky little lizards after all! However, the half time team talk (which involved the random slaughtering of a spectator to invoke the pleasure of the chaos gods) seemed to do the trick. Despite the lizards thrusting down their right, they seemed to remember at the last instance that they needed the ball... and leaving a number of their team ahead of them the ball spilled neatly beside the awaiting chaos team.

Robert Earnshaw was swiftly dispatched from the field BH'd, and the lizards faltered as the chaos team could easily man mark and guard the ball and wait for the right moment to grab it.

The Saurus Richard Duffy tried to take on the Ogre Graham Taylor but a rerolled both down result meant that the lizards were in deep trouble again with none of their players doing anything apart from ball watching with slack jaws.

The Khornets wasted no time and seized this delightful gift of an opportunity. Soon the lizard star Silibili left the field KO'd, along with the skink Carl Fletcher. To the crowds amazment the Krox Lewis Price stepped up, and punched out a ham of a fist, sending Skilly Williams stumbling backwards... and in his haste to follow up the Krox surprised himself and everyone watching when the ball landed in his other hand!

Despite fending off a few blows the Krox was eventually downed and the ball spilled, which Taffy Davies eagerly collected and headed off downfield. However it seemed that there was a need for a "Davies" convention as the two skinks Craig and Simon dashed after him to halt his progress, and depsite the odds, eventually put him down! A swift lizard counter was on, and the Khornets coaching staff looked on in horror. Fortunately for the Khornets, just as coach Wotfudboy was reaching for that "special mint sauce" and knife, Cliff Holton came to the rescue. He dashed in and put the offending skink down. Eventually Taffy grabbed it again and was clear. After a final dance in front of the crowd, Taffy saluted and scored what is likely to be his final TD.

Was a tough game, but the luck wasn't with oryx this time. All the Khornets needed to do was play carefully, bide their time, watch the lizard rerolls go and wrap the game up... but given the odds, the lizards nearly pulled off a second upset, and it was only down to some level headedness in defence that gave us the win.

Thanks for the game oryx... and we will make sure you suffer for your resistance in the season to come! :)
