“Premier League XXVIII - Round 2

Well the less said about this game the better. Even before the match started I knew this was going to be almost an impossible task. I was playing down a massive TR/Str -66/-51. Things got worse from there though. My best player, my ST6 Mummy Lacrosse niggled out before the game. He was lucky enough to pick that injury up from a failed ageing roll after the Round 1 match. If that wasn't overkill enough, I discovered that eagle had hired a Wizard for the game!

The game itself was a predictable write off. I lost the toss and kicked. Apart from BH'ing a Lineman on a foul in T1 and KO'ing Beat II, the AG6 mutant, there little else to talk about for the Undead. I did get the ball off them but the elves were able to recover. A double 1 on a GFI to get a 2d Block on the ball carrier for my Strip Ball Wight ended my chances to stop the score. 1-0 down at half-time.

The 2 Elves I had KO'd both returned for the second half but Beat II didn't last long when a rock KO'd him again. I was able to gather the ball and get it into the middle of the field with a cage around my Ghoul. Predictably the Wizard let go his fireball and took out most of the cage. One of my Zombies miraculously dodged the fireball and managed to catch the scattering ball. However he was taken down quickly by the elves with the ball bouncing to the feet of a pack of elves. From there it was an easy score for 2-0 and game over.

I had 3 turns left to try and get something for my team. One of my Ghouls made a play down the sideline, taking down the elf defending the wide area. A 2d block was rerolled into a double skull which gave me a chance for a T15 score. A zombie blocked the elf defending my potential scorer, freeing him up to receive the ball.

My Ghoul in the backfield ran the ball to the middle of the pitch, handed off to another Ghoul, who then ran it and Quick Passed to the remaining Ghoul. He caught the ball and ran it down to the end zone, just needed to pass 1 GFI roll to score. Predictably the roll was 1, rerolled 1.

Nuffle wasn't finished mocking me there though. The Elves covered up my players before recovering the ball that was sitting in the end zone. He then threw it to a Catcher near the centre of the pitch, hoping to score a 3rd TD. However one of my Ghouls, despite being marked, managed to pluck the ball out of the air. Maybe I could still score I thought.

The Ghoul with the ball was only 9 squares from the end zone but he had a Blodging Tackle elf marking him. A couple of 2d Blocks later and the Ghoul was free. All I needed to do was make a 3+ Dodge roll (with Dodge reroll) and 2 GFI's (with a team reroll still in hand). Of course, predictably, my Ghoul failed his first Dodge roll and KO'd himself!

To rub some more salt into the wound, one of my Wights was CAS'd on a block by the elves in T16, picking up a SI - Niggle which failed to regenerate. Thanks for that Nuffle! Looks like fluffybunny will be getting your Christmas Card this year! :-)

3 Votes: Ruffle II - MV8 combined with Blodge, Sidestep and Tackle was a horror for me to deal with.
2 Votes: Unnerve III - Scooped up the ball and ran in the second TD, effectively ending the game.
