“Battle for Ring of Fire:

A truly epic game between the best of Mordor and the undefeated champions of the Freeworld. The game started with the Corsairs receiving - but immediately the response was unleashing a fireball that jarred the ball loose and took out some blitzers as well (KO and CAS - apothed). The elves then attempted to stall...but the aggressive Corsairs had a shot at the ball, 55% chance of knockdown failed and the elves scored to go up 1-0. The Corsairs then mounted their second drive, but it looked bleak as time was short...but finally, the elves tripped...and the turnover gave the Corsairs a shot on T8...a dodge, pickup and toss to blitzer worked and it was 1-1. A one turn attempt by the elves failed and we went to the second half.

The elves received and quickly tried to made headway downfield...but also tried to stall...the Corsairs pushed them hard and even unleashed a lightning bolt to free the ball, but it was not enough, it did prevent the elves from stalling any longer as they scored with 3 turns left. A very deep kick forced the Corsairs into desperate mode. Pushing the ball upfield, they set up a weakish cage so that a pass and catch by blitzer could put them into decent shape for T16...but the pass failed...and the elves descended upon the ball...they grabbed it, but then a gfi (which would have made victory assured) failed and the ball was free...it was tight...with no RR, the Corsairs showed their mettle by a gfi for 2d blitz to push away an elf, then pickup and throw by thrower to AG 4 lineman who handed off to Lt. Blaze (catcher) for the 2-2 draw at the buzzer. Regulation was over...but the game would continue.

In overtime, the Corsairs saw 9 elves still across the field and realized that the numbers simply had to be reduced...frenzy knocked one catcher into the crowd on T1...then on the next turn, instead of protecting the ball as they should, the Corsairs knocked another elf into the crowd (a wardancer). The ball was knocked free, but the elves could not get it...with a 4 man advantage now, the Corsairs surrounded and started to knock around the elves - the armor that had withstood all game fairly well started to buckle and a few kicked helped more elves off the field and Lt. Blaze caught the ball off a bounce and was downfield. The Corsairs then stalled out the overtime period kicking as much as possible the downed elves. At last, the Corsairs scored to make it 3-2 and with no injury time...the 6 elves could not score and the game ended. The Ring of Fire is ours!

One of the best games I have played in a long time. The two teams were very evenly matched and neither side had horrible strings of bad luck or terrible coaching mistakes. Overall, a great game - thanks Gritter!”
