“We are broadcasting live from Innsbruck where the decisive World Cup Preliminary Round Game in group A took place. Copenhagen had to win with 3 TDs plus, assuming same number of casulties and it was clear that this would not be easy. Half 1 turned out to be the Copenhagens half. A lot of early casulties gave them the manpower adavantage and they where also able to score and prevent Innsbruck from scoring the 1-1. Innsbruck coach was quarreling with his luck, which acutally helped in half 2. Like Copenhagen in half 1 Innsbruck made some crushing blocks at the beginning of the half. I dare to say this was the bloodiest world cup game so far. Having the man advantage Copenhagen concentrated on defending the two catchers when 2 of their blitzers went stunned and the passer F. Mandl was able to run along the sideline to score a TD in 2 turns. In Turn 4 2nd half only 15 players returned to the pitch, 8 for Innsbruck 7 for Copenhagen. Copenhagen started the drive willing to do anything to win this game but in turn 7 their passer missthrew a quick pass. 2 Blocks later F.Mandl got the ball and played a short pass to A. Stachelberger who scored the decisive TD in turn 8. All in all a pretty even game with the more luckier team to win.

Innsbruck is now thought to the playoffs and will have to wait some time before knowing their opponent in the quaterfinals. All players but M.Sammer are healthy and able to compete in the QF game. Sammer might only play in the playoffs if Innsbruck advances to the semis.

Finally we really hope to see Copenhagen in the next world cup again, as they have proven to be an enrichment for this tournament.”
