#2 Ghol – Smashed Collar Bone (-ST)
Felons put the hurt on the Horde
Associated Press
2/18/09

Fresh and thirsty for blood, the Burning Horde played host to the formidable Freshwater Felons in the first match of the Blood Bowl season. It was an inauspicious start when the Felons blitzed on the kickoff, recovering the ball before the Horde had a chance to react to the surprise assault.

The resulting half proved to be a brutal affair, as neither team gave an inch and player after player was carted off the field. After recovering the ball, Horde player Shatterhorn attempted a desperate short pass to fellow Beastman Bloodmane, but fumbled the toss.

Lonesome Eddy the Skink quickly scooped up the ball and streaked for his end zone, but in a shocking display of athleticism, Ghol slipped and dodged past four Felon players to join fellow Chaos Knight, Sulal, in surrounding the ball carrier.

The teams jockeyed for position until Sulal managed to deflect and stun attacking Saurus Four-Toed Freddy. Enraged, Sulal turned and smashed into Eddy, knocking him out and sending the ball bouncing across the pitch.

As the teams battled for position, Beastman Madfang and Sulal delivered a brutal one-two block that sent the Felon player “Getaway” Gallorini into the stands where fans pummeled him bloody.

The half ended only a few short feet from where it began, but the pitch was soaked in blood. All told, three players from each team lay on the side lines, including Horde Minotaur, Mulcana.

As the second half began, the Minotaur entered the game once again, but he was clearly still groggy from his earlier battle with the Kroxigor, Carnivorous Carl. As the Horde kick fell into the stands, the Kroxigor once again proved his might by shattering Mulcana’s ribs and sending him out of the game for the second and final time.

Things quickly unraveled for the Horde from there. Despite some skilled blocking that once again dislodged the ball from Skink, The Quiet Kid, the Felons superior strength finally wore down the Horde players. With Beastman and Chaos Knights strewn helplessly around the field, Kid recovered the ball and streaked towards the end zone.

As the Horde players tried desperately to regroup, Carnivorous Carl once again smashed into the competition, shattering Chaos Knight Ghol’s collarbone, a brutal injury that would forever weaken the Horde star. As the shocked and dismayed fans watched another one of the fan-favorites get carted off the field, Felon player The Quiet Kid slipped into the end zone for the only score of the game.

A fortuitous kickoff would allow the Horde one last chance at salvaging a draw, but weakened and demoralized, the faster and stronger Felons team surrounded the ball carrier. Their powerful strikes forced a bad pass that sunk the Horde’s last chances.

Worse, the ball bounced into the hands of Chaos Warrior Kel, who was surrounded by four hungry Sauruses and perhaps the true star of the game, Kroxigor Carnivorous Carl.

Kel's resulting howls of pain could be heard for miles.

Horde Week 1 Transactions: In an attempt to stem the tide of injuries for their future matches, the Horde owner has hired the services of a league Apothecary.

Press Statement released by Freshwater captain Larry Lacoste

Firstly, big praise to remaining members of the Horde. The Felons play strong, and it takes strong players to not die when playing the Felons.

Secondly, apologies to injured members of the Horde. The Felons purposely kept Carl from dinner before game, which makes him extra cranky. Clearly this gave him the extra edge he needed.

We established play at opening whistle, with me smashing the hairy man and little skinks collecting the ball. Perfect execution, the way we draw it up. Soon after, Carl pounds the bigger hairy man. No surprise. But lack of team practice showed as we failed to advance the ball and left players lying down while making poor blocks. Quiet Kid took a big knock to the head, needed rest - important play to remember later on.

Rest of first half was a blur. The ball never moved, we just smashed heads. Smiley Joe hit the hairy boys real hard, twice. I spent lots of time pushing with two of their big warriors. They trash-talk, but that doesn't work. Eddy had a chance to score easy points, but everyone try too hard to help him instead of just letting him run. Bad team strategy. This will change in future games.

Second half starts, and I'm first to fight again (haha, get used to that). Silly warrior needed rest after that one. Then Carl REALLY lay into big bull, I was right there. Heard the bones snap. Great one. The whole team got hungry right there, not just Carl. Quiet kid grabbed the ball, ran nonstop while hairy things tripped over their feet trying to play keepup. Wasn't going to let them get him that time! Great hitting on that play. Easy score. Carl broke another guy while quiet kid ran in. Overhand smash, we practice that one a lot.

We made bad strategy on very last play, too. Had a good chance to score again, Ugly and Gibroni running all alone. Gibroni dropped the hand-off. He'll run lots of laps at practice. Guaranteed.
