After a disappointing match last round vs the team that will surely now come 1st in the group stages we need to win this game AND our next game to come 2nd. We face Royston's team who on paper look a bit stronger than us, with an extra player and a +STR guy.
They start well causing 2 BHs with blocks on their first turn... this is going to be rough!
And we're not doing well at all, causing turnovers and messing up our blitzes vs their ball carrier who is stalling at the back. Eventually we're able to knock him over though and the crowd throws the ball to the other side of our endzone. But more double skulls for us means they have an extra turn once again and they are able to get to the ball before us.
But a perfect turn (and good use of guard) from us means we can get Anubis free who reaches their beastman with a single GFI and wraps him in tentacles! On their turn they are held and in desperation try and pass the ball, fumbling it! We roll a skull on our first 1d block and give them a turnover again. They dodge players to get a 2d blitz against our beast... rolling a both-down that sees their MB beastman badly hurt! They are out of time now so we go for a fun but unlikely attempt to use our DP... and everything works, dodges come together like magic, and our gang foul vs their +STR strip baller KILLS him!!! Hooray!
At half time their KO wakes up and both ours remain sleepy so it's just 8 of us vs 11 of them, we need to cause some early cas here!
We go for the risky play, setting up a multiblock for our beast (pushback only) and then trying to foul out their clawed beastman, KO'ing him but getting sent off! This means we haven't secured the ball and they charge forwards after it, marking both beastmen at the back. We go for a risky series of dodges to get it away, but trip up on a GFI!
They score on turn 5 after we get players back, giving us a ray of hope. But 3/3 KO'd on our side fail to wake up leaving us just 5 players and no chance at all.
Well won Royston!”
