“The Red Star Strikers were keen to make amends for their failure to defeat the Wood Elves of Calico Monkey last week, but the Undead Canberra Carcasses stood in their way. Nevertheless, the Stikers seemed eager to put the hurt on their opponents after their attack was criticised as impotent last week.

After receiving the kick, the Strikers surged forward. A fierce dust blew across the ground for most of the first half and the view of the play was obstructed. It was the Reds who took advantage however, with Kliment Voroshilov emerging with the ball to charge across the line for a touchdown just before halftime. The Strikers' Troll Slayer was at long odds to score the first touchdown of the match and would have made the bookmakers happy. When the dust settled the Carcasses' Ghoul tribalsinner was helped off the field with an injury that will be hard to shake, the zombie Blackclaw had been put out of action, their Wight Laviak was knocked out and rochallor was not responsive to any attempts to revive him and was prnounced dead at the scene! The referee had also seen something he didn't like from Strikers hardman Deng Xiaoping and sent him off for the game!

The atmospheric conditions were more conducive to watching blood bowl in the second half, and the Canberra side got underway quickly. The ghouls led the charge, with Shane70 and OldBugman putting themselves in scoring positions. The Dwarves were caught a little by surprise by the sudden ferocity of the Undead but rallied, with Vladimir Lenin pushing OldBugman hard up against the boundary. Babs cleared the threat though, allowing Covertfun to make the handoff to OB who managed to score. The Strikers were still reasonably confident, Vyacheslav Molotov perhaps too much so. OldBugman moved to cover Klaus Fuchs, but Molotov was stil in the clear when he again suffered from a case of butterfingers and couldn't pick the ball up. He put up no resistance as OldBugman skipped past him and put the ball over the line for a 2-1 lead to the Carcasses. The signs of dissent were showing for the Strikers, but aside from one nice pass from Fuchs to the embarrassed Molotov, there were no highlights as they sought to equalise. Covertfun's block on Molotov ended his chances of scoring and his side's chances of taking anything from the match. Molotov tried to redeem himself late but was beaten by both the clock and OldBugman. He certainly won't be popular at the tavern tonight.

A disappointing loss for the Strikers. With the score at 1-1 and receiving, they looked in a good position to push for the win. There's no doubt that the blame will be placed squarely at the feet of the young Runner Molotov, and rightly so. At his worst point, some Reds supporters yelled 'get off your knees Molotov, you're blowing the game'. Whilst we can't condone that statement, the sentiment was pretty much right on. The Reds will have some work to do on improving, after failing to win two in a row now.

The Ghoul was everywhere, managing two touchdowns and keeping the pressure on. He also inflicted a casualty in a great all round performance.
