“The signs of an impending massacre were ominous… Injured and undermanned from their previous match against a full strength Dwarf team, the Snipers now faced another…
Seeking to avoid further bloodshed, Brewin undertook a new strategy and sought out the opposing coach, Hobbes, pre-match for a “cuppa”, hearing that the opposing coach was partial to the odd cup of Earl Grey. Whilst the meeting was successful it failed to avert a Skaven blood bath. However, I observed that Brewin and Hobbes spent many hours afterward drinking at Brewin’s tavern the Warp Den… I queried Brewin about why he should choose to entertain a guest for so long that had just butchered his team, to which he replied: “What’s the big deal? He did us dwarves proud out there today. Besides, like I always say there’s plenty more rats in the sewer haha.”
Hmmm I think he was quite drunk by this stage (and fortunately out of ear-shot of the Skaven patrons, many of whom were recovering in hospital anyway).
As for the game itself, it could be said that Brewin was lucky to salvage a draw and that no rats died… The Snipers received the ball at first, recovered it and ran it down the sideline. Errors left the Gutter Runner (Shadow) undefended and he was promptly knocked into the stands. Hasheesh’s Dwarves recovered the ball deep in their defence, but before they could cage the ball the Snipers responded and got it back. A couple of crucial errors later, the Snipers slipped free for a lucky first touchdown.
Hasheesh’s Dwarves responded in true Dwarven fashion. They pounded the Snipers into the turf and a short time later, four rat boys were in hospital, and the remainder were on the ground. The Snipers staged a desperate defence but it was really only Nuffle that saved them due to fumbled attempts by the Dwarves to pickup the ball and score. And so the half ended 0-1 in the Snipers favor.
The second half continued much as the first half had ended. Dwarves pounded the outnumbered Skaven who became increasingly desperate in their attempts to prevent the Dwarves scoring. The inevitable occurred though, with the Dwarves scoring halfway through the second half. With five players left to receive versus eleven, the rat boys managed to pull off another incredible drive to score again. But time remained enough for the Dwarves to retaliate and level the score… which indeed they did, putting another Skaven in hospital and incapacitating the remainder in the process.
A draw in the circumstances was a good result for the Snipers. One wonders though whether the team can last amidst a constant drain on players and funds to replace. One also wonders how the other two rival Skaven teams will fare, as they too are shortly to play against two successive Dwarf teams!”
