“The opening sequence was savage, injurying two skeletons on the line of scrimmage and knocking out the other. By turn 3, Mazylis also lost a mummy to a serious injury, as all the Khemri regeneration rolls failed. Star blitz-ra Vinis (122spp) got knocked out. With just a single knocked out warrior, I got confident, and scored early feeling that the match was mine and Nuffle was with me.
Nuffle is fickle, and the Khemri players put up a dazzling display of skill lasting several turns as they recovered the ball twice, completed passes, and Ramtut ran home an equalizer. I started the second half without two warriors, and just 10 players. The only bonus to me was that Vinis had failed to make it out for the second period, so Mazylis also started the half with 10 players as well, and in the end it was probably the deciding factor as I had enough skill - despite rapidly mounting injuries and knock outs - to elude the mummies and steal the ball for the winner.
It was a tough second half, and Mazylis had the benefit of much nicer dice for the duration of it. Despite the intervention of the ref (by now both Khemri DPs were off) my team was getting pummelled. I made the decision to throw on the apothecary for a serious (but not permanent) injury to warrior Semper Fi, much to the surprise of my opponent. I wanted the win, and was losing players too rapidly. In the end, it proved to be a tactical masterstroke, as he provided the guard that allowed the 2d hit on the ball carrier to set up the winner.
The first 3 turns were savage, in my favour. But after that it was a battle, and Vinco Vici Victum only just came out on top.”
