A 2-1 victory (or greater to me) got turned into a loss by a combination of terrible dice and sloppy play.
That rat Scrappit with his dual set of claws has more lives than a cat. All game he was singled out for fouls and dangerous blitzes. All game he survived with nary a scratch on him other than a knock out. Half the time I got to him, I couldn't knock him over, even with tackle.
Speaking of which, knock outs just meant 'warm the dug out until the next drive' as more often than not (7/10) the knocked out rats returned.
I kicked, a blitz, and I positioned well. The thrower failed his dodge, and I had an easy score with ball in hand. Instead of scoring with the strip ball beastman, I attempted and failed a hand off. A runner then comes from over the half way line, makes 2 go for its, throws a long bomb, and sets up 0-1.
Instead of scoring to make it 1-1 at half time, I contrived to make a (by the final turn) 6 man advantage not pay off by leaving a lone guy in scoring position. Clementus had no problems knocking him down. Well, I lie, the troll could have scored, but of course - being a troll - he dropped the catch.
The second half things went from bad to worse. A blitz (coincidentally the 3rd of the game) and a nice kick saw Clementus get players in position to steal the ball. The kick was caught, and I sent Semper Fi in to take out the gutter runner. Snake eyes on the go for it and 2-0.
So, receiving again, Clementus uses his dauntless runner to cause me headaches. Had it been 1-1, I would have been defensive, but I had to run the ball forward. Shadowing doesn't help, as on the 3rd dodge Titan goes over on a snake eyes and it's 3-0. Brill.
Still time for a consolation. A beastman gets the ball, needs a go for it? Snakes. Still can score. First of Despair does the hard work of getting the ball in a tackle zone and getting out, throws, snake eyes.
It was just one of those games. From the moment I failed the first hand off, losing a great position, I had that feeling this game was never going my way. I can't believe how lucky Scrappit was.
Thanks for the game Clementus! Was momentus in a way.”
