Ball handling woes continue for the Blackwater, the Wreckage Ratz veteran thrower, as the Ratz lost 2-1 to rival clan Riverbank Roasters. Wreckage had won the toss and elected to kick in the opening half. The Ratz managed a defensive shift to start the game, but could not contain gutter runner, Ron Roast, who caught an early pass from fellow runner, Sid Sear, brining the Roasters to an early 1-0 lead.
On the subsequent drive, Blackwater fumbled what should have been an easy pickup. He did manage to get a hand on it in the ensuing scrum, but could not connect with gutter runner, Gangrechank, who stood wide open.
“Whar wuz me pass blocking?” complained Blackwater. “Dat damned vermin Blanche knocked me arm.”
The ball was recovered by Roaster’s gutter runner, Barry Boil, who ran in to put the Roasters up 2-0.
On the follow up kickoff, once again Blackwater bobbled another easy pickup. By the time he recovered, unfortunately no Ratz were left standing in scoring position as the clock ran out on the first half.
During a brief half time interview, Wreckage head coach Krael stated that Blackwater was being checked over by the team apothecary.
“There doesn’t seem to be anything wrong with him, physically. We think it may be a matter of nerves.”
As the second half began, the Ratz finally started to make some things happen, but again Blackwater threw an incomplete pass trying to connect with gutter runner, Syphultrash. The ball was recovered by Barry Boil, who ran forward and connected with Storm Vermin, Blaise Blanche. Blaise tucked the ball and charged into Blackwater, knocking him down. The Wreckage faithful were furious. Bits of broken seats and bottles of Bugman’s began to fly as Blackwater was booed and cursed.
“At least he plays better when angry,” said Krael.
Blackwater leaped back to his feet almost immediately, grabbed Blanche by the neck and slammed his knee into Blanche’s jaw, knocking him out. He then recovered the ball and started looking for a receiver down field. He soon managed to connect with Syphultrash, who ran in for the Ratz only score, salvaging them from a shutout.
In the following drive, it looked as if Riverbank would score again. But Roaster’s thrower, Basil Braise had his own problems controlling the ball as he dropped a pass to Ron Roast. Blackwater recovered, but tripped trying to run forward to pass to Gangrechank. Riverbank linerat, Harry Heat recovered, but likewise could not complete the pass to Roast as the clock ran out.”
