“The challenge came in from an unbeaten Orc side on the back of two 2-0 wins. I'm not a very good Dwarf coach but took it anyway - I have little idea on how to make effective cages so basically didn't bother :S
From the off I knew that my dice were ok - then they just started getting better. By end of 1st half I was stuck at 80%. My opponent was in the 60s mind so not exactly a total 1 sided game. An early badly hurt to one of my guys had me at 10 men (thankfully got enough cash for apo from this game) and I figured I'd go for goal anyway - what the hell eh, you don't try at least you will never succeed. The driving rain would have made it hell to pick the ball up (as the orcs found out) but a bad kick from the off saw a touchback to one of my guys who carried it to handoff then a short run for home.
By then Mastersly was getting a bit miffed - constant comments about dice rape and how i was pulling off 1 dice blocks and so on. Sure I was, but I had no rerolls left by turn 4 of each half. Things took a turn for the worse when a block nailed a lineman - with no apo he wasn't coming back. The worst though was a skilled Orc Blitzer who just needed a dodge to easily score and tie the game. He failed the dodge (RR already used that turn), tripped and died...
Then Mastersly REALLY got p*ssed off, with all sorts of comments about wanting to concede, disconnect from the game so his players would live and so on. I know what it's like mate - I've been there. Your team, your pride n joy, gets nailed by sheer bad luck and it's hell to sit through.
To his credit Mastersly stuck at it.
Unfortunately the driving rain made the ball hard to scoop up and my Dwarves tied the ball carrier down. A failed block by me left my guys open for the rest of the orcs to catch up and soon it became apparent that I wouldn't be scoring again after the soap like ball bounced away from my Blitzer.
A turn 16 foul from Mastersly (with no chance of scoring) could be seen as sour grapes but he said he thought he'd be getting spp. Well, there are no spp for fouls, but you know that now :)
I returned the favour with a foul, only for the ref to send me off (with eye on other team) and game to end.
Hard fought game in the rain for the Dwarves, a real toughy. I rode my luck and got plenty of pows but only caused 2 KOs and obviously the death. To my guys credit I only took the 1 Ko and the badly hurt from early on - but that guy had guard which would have been very useful!
Thx for the game - stick with it Mastersly - you clearly know how to play the game quite well, just that the dice ran more my way this game than yours. Not surprising though when literally the only thing I tried were a couple of dodges, a handoff and everything else was blocks and picking players up off the floor. With block skill that made sure the luck score showed very high throughout. if i'd tried to pick the ball up more or throw it, the luck score would have been in the 50s or lower :S
