#14 Can't Outrun a POW – Broken Ribs (MNG) #14 Can't Outrun a POW – Smashed Knee (NI)
“In this story the part of the Wood Elves will be played by Unchallengeable, and Chaos will be played by the Silver Enclave.
The Wood Elves receive, and in a messy drive, Dump Off to a lino to skill up for the touchdown, taking up just 3 turns. On the Chaos drive, things bog down a bit, the Wood Elf apothecary gets used, but a tricky 2db gets set up on the ball carrier for a clean POW (which my non-tackler needed). A favorable bounce let my last player to move (a catcher) sneak in to grab the loose ball in traffic, run away with it, and punt. The subsequent race to the ball was won by the Wood Elves, who decided that all those Chaos tackle zones were merely a suggestion and not a rule, and ran right past them. 2-0 at halftime.
The Chaos drive is the bloody sort. The lino who skilled up in the first half misses the next game, and one of my blodging catchers takes a niggle. The ball makes its way into scoring range without too much trouble, and the Wood Elves back off. There is no need to press the ball, since Chaos needs to score, being down 2.
The Woodie drive is set up to be a holding action; get the ball into the hands of the catchers, and let them play keep-away Dump Off. But somehow Chaos has MA8 beastmen (or catchers or somesuch) that sneak by to knock the ball loose while a non-dumper is holding it. With the opposing side of the pitch vacated, I retrieve the loose ball (all the GFIs to get to it left Chaos unable to cover it) and ship it well up field with a series of rerollable 2+ ball handling. A failed 2db w/ reroll leaves me just a 3+2+ to score and a team reroll to do it with, dodging away from a Tackler who had my catcher pinned on the sidelines.
That made it 3-1.
Interesting game to be certain. I was surprised at how long some of Aioria's turns took, for an experienced player. Multiple turns went over 4 minutes, and one I think was nearly 6. Still, a lot of the melees were pretty complicated, with Guard, Sidestep and Tackle all mixed randomly in a scrum. I just felt like I spent a lot more time watching this game than playing it.
Felt good though to get totally outbashed and come up a little short on luck, and still come away with a clear victory. With just 1 tackler of my own and I think 4 on the other side, along with an Iron Man guard lino, I was knocked around all game. It certainly felt like Chaos was on the far side of the field, not another bunch of elves (I checked, and I came up short on blocks, 37-71).”
