Letter from Prince Luthor Maledread to King Orfin Maledread II

Dear Father

Whatever foul potion you have administered to my team, or foul curse laid upon our warriors, must cease. As the 'fortune score' above shows, the opponent had an excellent run of luck that bordered on the supernatural at one point, only failing at the very last with a pushback instead of the pow he'd been handing out all game. Webattled against the tide, though went 1-0 down and misfortune struck as one of our men, 'going for it' fell, stumbled, then went down instead of scoring. After the head coaches other team getting completely ass raped in the game before this, we were thinking 'here we go again' - especially after our last outing. It seems someone smiled with fortune down from high on us as we scraped back to 2-1, the score went to 2-2, and in the dying seconds, by my own fair hand, a winning pass and go for it secured a very hard fought win. The opponents, justifiably, felt miffed, and struck at the death to deliver what could have been a crippling blow, but the apothecary saved his hand and he plays on. There our fortune wobbled again.

Archduke Tomalin Kutblayde has revealed his true age to be somewhat older than the 300 years first thought, and he, like myself, may have aches and pains that prove too hard to shrug off in future games. Luckily a royal cousin, Archon Veridan Courtwilde, has answered the call, and joins us to bolster our numbers, though I fear we are some way from full strength, and indeed, drastic action and numbers culling may be required to achieve it.

So the Stygian Blades march on. This was far from any kind of convincing victory against a skilled opponent who used his neverending luck to good advantage. It slipped from the 80s percentiles only late on in the game, though in the last few moments we had our own luck thanks to my scintilating ability to not fall over when so many of my team have mastered the art.

As always, one hopes to get a 'breather' and perhaps an easier game, but luck is in short supply these days, especially at key moments. Speaking of which how goes your campaign against our common foe? I hear your luck deserted you at the battle of Forthwith valley...

Your son, Luthor

Letter from King Orfin Maledread II to his son, Prince Luthor Maledread

Dear Son

Bringing up the unfortunate reverse of the Battle of Forthwith Valley is low, son, even for you. Clearly it was not my fault to underestimate the accursed halflings - how was I to know their offer of a pre battle meal would be adouble edged sword, and that the raging trots would see near my entire army sprint from the field clutching their behinds to hold in their innards, the accursed flings laughing all the while? Many have criticised me for being naive for that, and heads have rolled.

As yours will soon, doubtless on the field of the Blood Bowl. Still, you have upheld the family honour by defeating a rival clan, against all odds with the various witches curses I have had placed on you. For that, you almost have my grudging respect. Guile, Subterfuge and a sharp poisoned tipped dagger ever be your friend Luthor.

For I am not!

King Orfin Maledread II

Challenge from: Me, as a recovery game (both 10 players, me possibly 9 with a niggle)

After the appalling travesty of one sided crapness in my last game, i could only hope for better in this one. I was comprehensively outdiced yet again, as the luck score shows, but this time, unlike others, luck at key moments held out.

Well, some of the time.

Whilst my opponents didn't put a foot wrong all game that I can remember (with less rerolls that lasted out longer than mine), I was sweating every dodge and go for it, with Luthor (5AG) proving villain and hero, though mostly hero.

Kick off results for the most part went the opponents way, cas rolls - at first, went my way, dodges mostly for the opponent and Luthors 5ag passing was pretty solid, so maybe he was the deciding factor. A blitz (after passing through a number of tackle zones and going for it without need for reroll) only resulted in a pushback on him in my turn 16. He dodged past the opponent and passed, caught, a rerolled gfi later and the win was sealed.

Sweating all the way.

I didn't play any better than my opponent who deserved at least a draw, but the luck score doesn't lie, though it is odd sometimes. I failed to gfi and score early on, and a missed dodge (all 2+) both with rerolls that failed too, meant I could've maybe scored sooner on both occasions, but I can't complain with the way it turned out after the mauling I've been getting lately from dice.

Victory was tainted by another ageing niggle on a blitzer, countered by great cash that bought us another blitzer.

Nuffle gives, Nuffle takes away, Nuffle bends you over and drops your pants. Sometimes, just sometimes, he takes pity and pulls them up for you before he has his wicked way.
