Season XXXI - Game 1

After a cake to grab their 2nd tittle the Revenge were expceting some sterner tests in Season XXXI and they were not dissapointed. The Red Star Strikers are tough, dam tough, with a nice mix of speed. This was going to be a big game.

Big games need big players and the Woodies were saved by their two start Whoberry and Rainbow Warrior.

Despite an early pitch invasion the Woodies got the ball to the safety of Rainbow Warrior (only just mind). But with the dwarfs proving almost unmovable -Grim was an exception :), there appeared no way forward for the Revenge. Rainbow Warrior did some dancing around avoiding the stunites and finally managed to pounce on a small gap and run clear for the first TD of the season.

Wtih ample time on the board for an equilizer before half time it was once agian up to Rainbow Warrior to show his class. He managed to skip the dwarven cage and knock the ball free from Kliment Voroshilov. Mandozer then grabed him with his tentacles to ensure a Woodie 1-0 lead at the break.

If the first half belonged to Rainbow Warrior the second was all about Whoberry. The Woodies defended well early and despite taking some damage managed to get the ball to Whoberry courtesy of the crowd. However with numbers stacked against them the men of wood in trouble. A timely fireball gave Whoberry the space he needed to sprit upfield almost completely alone. With the dwarfs in pursuit it must have been the slowest fast break in the history of the SWL!. Whoberry just managed to outpace the Strikers cover defence to seal the game 2-0.

A dam tough start but the cream sure did rise to the occasion. It also brings up their 10th consecutive win in Premier the joint record tied with the record set by the Woodies Double Double and the Seekers of Sepulchre.

Twahnlows

3pts: Kliment Voroshilov - If the Strikers had more guys with pace like Kliment they would not have lsot this game

2pts: Leonid Brezhnev - One of a long list of solid longbeards on this team

1pt: Lavrenti Beria - Along with his comrade Pol Pot made the dwarven front line unmovable

Cheers for the game Frankencow, has been a while since the Woodies have a had a tough match like that. Good luck for the rest of the season mate.

For their first game in Premier, the Red Star Strikers were set up tough challenge - the reigning Premiers, Woodies Double Revenge. Led by Whoberry, WDR had taken everything before them in Season XXX and were looking to start well at the Dwarves' expense.

The Revenge received and the game was underway. A mass pitch invasion looked to give the Reds and advantage, but their deep kick worked against them as they were unable to reach the ball before Rainbow Warrior. Grim Ironjaw was smashed out of the game early, proving a waste of money by the Strikers' management. Rainbow Warrior was able to eventually run the first touchdown in, and despite an attempt by Voroshilov to run the lines, it was 1-0 to WDR at the break.

The Revenge kicked off badly to restart and Voroshilov again took the ball. The Reds started positively as the put the big Chaos Warrior Chop Air off the park for the game. Hotdogs, the supersized Beastman, proved invaluable though as he blitzed the Dwarven cage and kept smashing Vladimir Lenin until he fell awkwardly into the crowd, sustaining an injury that will likely keep him out next week. Voroshilov recciprocated, sending Hotdogs into the crowd in a similar fashion and with a similar result. Lavrenti Beria then knocked out the big Troll Smoker J and it looked like the Dwarves were starting to get on top physically. That was until Cherry Bobbins managed to sneak through and blitz Voroshilov and, with the aid of a very fortuitous bounce, take possession and charge through the Dwarven lines. Rainbow Warrior attempted to run in support, but couldn't break through and injured himself in the process. Passive Miguel Sanchez tied up the Dwarves, making it hard to get at Bobbins, but eventually Leonid Brezhnev succeeded, putting Bobbins out of the game. The bounce, however, was disastrous as the ball was thrown in well behind the Chaos line. A fireball from the sidelines gave Whoberry the opportunity to run away with it and there was nobody who could go with the big Chaos Warrior. Whoberry ran the touchdown in to make it 2-0 to WDR in the dying moments of the game.

A disappointing start to Premier for the Dwarves. The held their own for periods of the game but in the end were overwhelmed by the class of WDR. They will have to prepare for their next match without Vladimir Lenin, who will be nursing an injury. They can only keep plugging away to try and get some points in what is a much harder division.

3 - Rainbow Warrior

Rainbow Warrior was a class above among the beastmen. The only player capable of stopping him was Rainbow Warrior himself, tripping and injuring himself as he attempted to (once again) go through the Dwarven line.

2 - Whoberry

This Chaos Warrior is a dead set monster, but showed he can play the ball as well.

1 - Hotdogs

The one point goes to hotdogs for that fantastic blitz on Lenin. He got one back, but his initial blitz really opened up a pathway to the ballcarrier.

Thanks for the game erik. You and your team were just too good on the days. Good luck for the season.
