Another desperately close game. The handicap for my guys was Buzzing, not that useful as he badly hurt himself (apo fail) late on in the game with it. D'oh.
Other than that the High Elves started with 9 players and thinned me down to 9 for most of the match, so I duly returned the favour and thinned them down to 7, then 6 and I think 5 at the end. Thankfully the apothecary did his job and despite the loss and -FF the Debauched gents get reasonable cash, their players back and a few spp.
High luck for both teams in the game - mine stayed pretty high because I mostly blocked, the Gents stayed high because they dodged, though that failed more often. In fact, their early blocks weren't great either with block/pow ending turns on a couple of occasions.
Still, I didn't have all the luck. I was one GFI away (failed) from scoring int he first half so I guess Nuffle must've taken pity on me in the second when a GFi failed from the High Elves and freed up a linemen to pass to, hand off to another thrower, who scored the games only TD.
After that it was battle all the way - the High Elves, outnumbered, were still tenacious and ruined my attempts to score after I caught their ball carrier. Indeed, they were pretty close (1 turn away) when I caught them up, this time GFI working like I hoped with several coming off. I was screwed a bit by the bounce into the crowd with the ball, and made to sweat whislt a dodging elf tried to pick his way through a maze of players to grab the ball in two tackle zones and score.
That one didn't come off, thankfully, but I'd seen the High Elves do some crazy stuff that did work, so wouldn't have been surprised!
Well played Mowski. I have no doubt it would have been different if you'd had a full squad, and maybe we can hook up for a rematch when my guys are a bit closer in skill.
Oh yeah - I had the ref all first half, didn't use it once. The way I see it, any coach that offers a game with 9 players is after a recovery game, not a kill team off game, and I try not to be a complete douchebag in those circumstances.
Hence the ref stayed firmly gagged, but had nothing to do anyway :)
Glad you got through without injury Mowski, steer clear of orcs in future!!!
Cheers,
