The picnic's last match before things got a bit bashy. Palmed coin was the handicap, declared somewhat useless by all and sundry. Laviak chose to field no DP, and the picnic followed in kind...how sporting!!

We pushed forward, not doing too much damage, finding it somewhat difficult to get through Lav's defenses. Lav decided he did want to foul afterall, and got his Newbie lino sent off for his troubles. Still, I managed to find a gap and decided not to stall, 1-0 about Turn 5.

Both DPs came out! But weren't used excessively....Lav, not at all. He tried to dodge to do one but came a cropper. As for me, I fluffed my defense and the blood went to my head, using my Wizard stupidly - what a waste of cash - to try and get the early 2-0 lead. It didn't come off and I was hamstrung. Lav managed, after some effort, to get over the line. 1-1 first half.

Second half wavered from side to side. Lav had the ball, lost it to my swift elves, who promptly got within sight of the end zone. But Lav recaptured it, KO'd an elf with a lightening bolt and got the ball back. We tried in vain to continue to tag the ball but with a number of elves KO'd, it wasn't looking good. We did get the ball on the ground for Lav's turn 8, but he made the pickup and GFI to score. 2-1.

Well done, lav, nicely played. Best of luck for the rest of the season.

SWL Season XXXI - Premier League XXXI - Round 3

With several players missing after our encounter with the woodies in round two, we hired both Zara and a wizard again to bolster our chances. Our main advantage lay in the fact that the darkies had no guard on the team. On the other hand, they had more armour, plenty of sidestep, and of course, they are elves.

The first half saw a haphazard defence on our part, which the elves took advantage of, scoring quickly in just turn 4. This gave us time to push up the field a way, only to be stopped short by a solid elven wall. We were also close to the sidelines, where their side-step and frenzy could be put to excellent use... Luck was on our side, however, and a whole bunch of POWs combined with a skull when The Bill II tried to knock down the ball carrier meant that we were able to equalise.

Half time score: 1-1

Thanks to the lack of blood in the first half, we still had a full team to field for the second. Securing the ball quickly was our top priority, and we did that quickly. Just one small slip up left the ball in a position where an elf blitzer was able to leap in for a 1d blitz on the ball carrier. With a loose ball, it took no time at all for them to secure it, and things wend from bad to worse as they played to their strengths, passing the ball up the field to a waiting elf, and forcing us to try our hands at their game.

Dodging madly, the girls managed to get the ball free once more. With what some would call luck (but clearly was pure skill), and the aid of a timely lightning bolt, they also managed to recover it! With impeccable timing, the girls scored just in time for the half to end.

Final score: 2-1

3 pt: The Bill II
A leaping madman, and the source of many of our problems this match. A great compination of skills, and managed to put himself in the right place at the right time (well, right at the end, where he put himself just slightly too close to the sidelines).

2 pts: Brittany II
For the touchdown, and putting up one hell of a fight in the second half. I truly though she was going to be the end of all our hopes and dreams, but somehow we got away with it.

1 pt: Rat Cage
The combination of block, dodge and sidestep is always something to dread, and though he didn't stand out any more than any other player on the team with similar skills on defence, this up and coming lineman managed a flawless 1:1 block/casualty ratio. If he keeps it up, mabye he'll take out the fists (now wouldn't that be embarrasing in a group containing two chaos teams and dwarves to boot).
