Following the convincing win in their debut and the week of wild celebrations in Varnheim that followed a come down for the cards was perhaps inevitable the following week. It was a sloppy performance by the Cards who were out rushed, out blocked and outhustled and finally outscored.

Quarterback Zak Vanderghast did himself no favors with two costly interception in the first half that both led to Slugger scores. A pick by the Lizard Skink Huantlocti early in the first half led to the first Sluggers Touchdown. Huantlocti scored on what was perhaps the play of the game, stepping deftly through two Cardinal defenders on his way to the touchdown.

The second interception came when the Saurus Falataxti blindsided the young thrower on a pass rush. Falataxti snatched down the shakily thrown ball put a terrific hit on Vanderghast and raced into the endzone unopposed for the 2-0 lead.

A later fumble by the rookie thrower near midfield while trying to find a wide open Boskovitch in the endzone wasted a valuable opportunity on a day in which they were very scarce for the Cards. In the ensuing tussle for the ball Vanderghast was knocked out for the rest of the game.

While Vanderghast bore the brunt of fan criticism for his horrendous first half performance there was plenty of blame to go around

The second half turned into a comedy of errors for the cards who were unable to take advantage of a key turnover. Boskovitch racing down the sideline unopposed with no defenders between him and the endzone, was tripped up by a prehensile tail that was surreptitiously extended from the Sluggers sideline.
Scrambling to his feet the young catcher muffed the subsequent pick up attempts and a mad scramble for the ball ensued. The Cards managed to get hold of the ball twice more only to lose it again on badly thrown pass attempts.

All in all it was a long day for Varnheim who posted just 13 rushing paces to the Sluggers 32 and allowed 3 players to reach the 8 block mark as the Cards had no answer for the devastating hitting of the Slugger Sauruses.
