“The Raiders & Corsairs managed to add another hard fought victory to the team's annals in this severely contested game. Following the well known "never retreat, never surrender" strategy, the dark elves brought home yet one more phyrrhic victory. It took blood, sweat and tears, but who cares. It's only the taste of glory that lasts in the end.
Rookie blitzer Tularis died in his first game. He will not be missed. Lhunara kept a Kroxigor busy for a whole match and even required apothecary assistance to prolong her career. Team captain Hauclir took a mighty blow to the head, but in the end it's just a battle scar in Khaine's honour.
The Raiders coach decided to try a new strategy and opted to kick at the start of the game. If you gotta defend, better do it with as many players as possible. Despite the lack of manpower (only 9 elves started the game), the Raiders & Corsairs set up a solid defense allowing no holes in the wall. Step by step, push by push, however, the lizards advanced turn after turn. Time for a bold move, thought the coach, because only bold moves wins you games. It's just a matter of the right timing when to make it.
A daring blitz kicked the ball free and the unsuspecting skink into the ko box. Further elven opportunism resulted in a fully recovered ball, and for a brief moment a 1-0 lead didn't seem entirely impossible. However, reality was respected and the elf carrying the ball got blitzed and gone was the scoring chance. More importantly, the lizards couldn't score either.
A pitch invasion at the second's half kick-off stunned three skinks while injuring not a single elf. You gotta love those fans for their blood and mayhem factor. Quickly realising the sudden chaos and disorganisation in the lizards' ranks, the elves pushed through the opposing lines and got the ball in a semi-cage to score two turns later and taking the lead at 1-0.
Further stark dark elven determination and steel discipline in the druchii ranks made sure the score was well defended the next drive. However, our numbers started to dwindle seriously. Time for another bold move, the bloodwine-intoxicated Raiders' coach thought. Despite all logical odds, agile Lurhan was able to dodge in the cage and once more kick the ball out of the ballcarrying skink's hands. In the ensuing chaos the lizards managed to recover the ball, but opportunistic dark elf play and positioning proved its worth once more. After some preparatory dodges and blocks, the ballcarrying skink was succesfully blitzed again. Because you've got to use of it while it lasts, Silar decided to enjoy Nuffle's blessing and squeeze in the hole and dodge for the ball, throwing it to relative safety in an empty spot near the lizards' end line.
The reptiles still tried, but desperation clearly marked their face. Despite their tireless pounding and solid team tactics, it just wouldn't work this time. No, Nuffle would not allow it and instead decided to give victory to the battered dark elves...
