Nocturama wins against High Elves! We were worried this would be a tight game and numbers would be important for OT, so we brought Horkon. Handicap against was Greatest, never a good thing. It rained the entire game.
HaiElves received first and played it cautiously, too cautiously perhaps? Nocturama played a disciplined defense, appling some pressure here and there and trying to take out opposing MB players. Everything worked like a charm and the HaiElves actually fell back further and further into their own backfield, failing to get a receiver into a decent scoring position. The half ended with the HaiElves still in control of the ball, in their own end zone.
0-0 at half-time and Nocturama receiving. It started very badly, with a RR into both down from our blockless MB Lino. The ball was not in an easy spot to get to for the HaiElves however, and one of their AG5 elves fell down trying to get it away. Nocturama recovered with a near perfect T2, securing a cage and fouling the HE AG5 strip-baller for a BH that the apo saved. The HaiElves then rolled a doubleskulls early in their T2 and opted not to RR, saving for possible OT. This allowed Nocturama some ease in setting up another gangfoul on the strip-baller, this time for a RIP.
With their best defensive player out, the HaiElves were in a bad position for the rest of the half. They were also clearly unlucky from there on, their luck % dropping with each turn. They did get some dodge-into-TZ hits on our ball-carrying Witch (hard to prevent with all that AG5), but never knocked her down. Nocturama pressed the advantage and could dodge in the winning TD in T16.
So it didn't go to OT, but I still think it well could have. With more luck from their MB players in first half, the HaiElves could have started 2nd half with superior numbers. As it went down our effective 1st half defense prevented that and then we could overpower the HE in the 2nd. All in all I'm very happy with the team's performance.
