Many would have thought that after 3 seasons of relaxing in the WIL that the promotion to the Premier Division would have been the catalyst for the Woodies to show the true class. After all the Woodies had excelled in the Top Flight in the SWL. However a 1-2-1 start to the season suggested that the Men of Wood were still in holiday mode...but things were about to change.
Whether it was the prospect of playing the defending champions or the irritating sound of soul music, the Woodies knew they were not on vacation any more.
Ray Charles send an early scare through the ranks when his first block knocked Slim Jim into next week. However The Big Man managed to get stuck into Ray whilst he was tying his shoes. The medical team kept Ray in shape but he was clearly rattled. With their go to man out of sorts the Legends of Soul could not stop Hollywood from scoring late in the first half. The Woods managed to keep the Chaos horde at bay and were much relived when the siren sounded for half time. 1-0
The 2nd half and the Woodies attempted operation run away and survive. The plan was only moderately successful as Ray was by now back on his game. The Legends ran in a TD pretty much unopposed but they left the WOV will 8 players to front up for the next drive. 1-1
Hollywood played quarterback and got the ball quickly to Mandozer who sprinted towards the end zone. He pace was to much for the Legends to handle and the Woodies went back in front with only a few minutes left on the clock. 2-1.
A quick blitz on defense and the Hollywood managed to sneak into the oppositions half and catch the kick-off. He was easily disposed of but he wasted enough time and the Woodies were relived when the Ref blew the whistle for full time. ”
