It was a beautiful day at Diggly Field as the Industrial Diggers hosted the Jersey Rat Gang in their continuing bid to reach the NWFL playoffs! Both teams were raring to go, but it was apparent from the start that the Skaven had put their furry backs and devious minds to it: they had done a fair bit of Extra Training, and had started some terrible rumors about Lull's off-field habits that had some fans leaving in disgust. In spite of that, 74,000 showed up for the game, ready to see a classic battle of fast vs. tough.

The Rats elected to receive, and the Diggers started off with a bad kick that stayed close to the line of scrimmage. The Skaven easily scooped it up and started to gather behind the line for a drive, but amazingly, star Gutter Runner Darrelle Revis dropped the quick pass that was tossed his way. Bull Centaur Caterpillar took advantage of his momentary distraction to give him a good hit, but he bounced up and got it back after some fancy paw work from teammates Mark Sanchez and Calvin Pace.

The Diggers swarmed over the line, committing themselves fully to stopping the drive. That nasty Hob Loess seemed to be everywhere, sticking his claws in the weak spots in the Skaven armor and leaving a bloody trail behind him. Darrelle Revis ended up surrounded but tried to dodge out anyway, and was felled in a terrible spray of blood. Fortunately the Rats' poultice-maker got to him in time, and he shook the apothecary off with a fierce look. The Diggers wasted no time in capitalizing, though, and Keuper (after a moment of fumbling) carried the ball in for a touchdown. The kickoff stayed too far from the receivers for the Rats to respond in kind, and the half ended with the Diggers leading.

The second half started with a blitz from the Rats, and the enormous Rat Ogre, D'Brickashaw, laid about the front line with a vengeance. The rest of the rats stayed in the backfield to defend, which worked at first, but the relentless solidity of the Dwarves and churning feet of the Bulls cleared the way for Loam to snatch the ball and run it in to make it 2-0.

There was plenty of time in the second half for the rats, though, and after a so-so kick they might have scored quickly, but there were just too many Dwarves in the way, and in the end, while Darrelle scored an easy TD, it was just as the whistle blew, and the game ended with the Diggers victorious.

Thanks to Crimsonwolf for a well-played game. His Jersey Rat Gang hit hard and ran fast, but Dwarves are tough, and an unbalanced KO/CAS count made the win possible. The luck totals don't reflect that what good fortune I did have tended to come at exactly the right time. Thanks, Crimsonwolf, for your good sportsmanship and friendly chatter.
