The sky was lightly cloudy at Diggly Field today - perfect Blood Bowl weather! And so the Industrial Diggers took the field, flush from their recent success and ready to lay the beat down on the Sangrial Suckers.

The Vampires won the toss and elected to receive, and started a classic Vampire rush: cloud the field with Thralls, then get a Vampire to do the actual work. The Diggers held them at bay over and over, though, and the ball passed back and forth. There was a mad scramble for the ball, and near the end of the half the Suckers got hold of it, but a heavy hit from Mahindra downed the Count DeMoney, and the Vampires couldn't recover the ball in time to score.

During all this, both dugouts had several KO'd and hurt players in them, so it's clear both teams were out for blood and not just the Vampires!

The second half looked good for the Diggers, as they were receiving and had Marl on the field. But the Suckers had a trick up their sleeves and Blitzed on the first play! The Diggers recovered, though, and laid down law on the line: Thrall Hesreich found Bonny's blow to be too much, and though the Suckers' apothecary rushed on the field they were too late to save him. Amid the chaos, the Count of Counting scooped up the ball and headed down the sideline, his supernatural agility serving him well. Caterpillar got free, though, and knocked him down, pressing him against the sideline! Marl came in to assist, hoping to keep the Vampire down and prevent him from getting the ball.

Amazingly, the Count got up, knocked Marl away (with Token's help), and ducked between Caterpillar's legs! Rarely has such a display of agility been seen, folks, and with a tremendous effort the Count crossed the goal line for a touchdown!

The Diggers were undaunted, though, and readied to respond in kind - even tie would keep them in the running for the Tournament! They received the kick (safely, this time) and sent the Bull Centaurs deep into the Suckers' backfield. Marl, the Elven Hob, got hold of the ball and was ready to toss it downfield to the waiting Centaurs, but at the last second one of the ball's spikes wedged between his fingers, and he dropped it!

Meanwhile, in the backfield, the Count of Counting was overcome by his nature, and found his way to a group of Thralls, sank his teeth into Stavil... and never took them out until the poor lad was dead on the ground! Two... TWO dead Thralls, ah ah ah!

Back in the main action, Count DeMoney emerged from the scuffle with the ball and, despite everything they tried, the Diggers couldn't stop him from scoring. At that point the game was all over but the shoving, and the Diggers' winning streak ended.

Thanks to Sigmar1 for his excellent sportsmanship and friendly chatter during the game. He was an excellent opponent and one I look forward to playing again. As he said, the score didn't indicate how close the game really was; a remarkable confluence of ones in just the wrong places kept the Diggers from managing a tie. Thanks for a great game, Sigmar1!
