“For the WoMD3, Val failed her niggling roll pre-game and got apoth'ed in (likely due to having guard and dauntless, with the girls only having 2 of each). Val lasted until our T1 before a very large troll decided he didn't like dauntless blitzers. That set the tone for the game...
Receiving, the WoMD3 tried to fight the orcs on the LOS but had their success impeded by the aforementioned troll not wanting to fall over or be push away. They were able to pick up the ball and secure it, but it looked bad for a slow drive as the orcs brought their POWs with them and a shiny-new Tackler (with MB). The fouling also didn't help matters for the amazons, as their DP was wearing her fuzzy slippers instead of her stiletto heels, and av9 held up better than av7 did - both my fouls in the game caused cas.
The WoMD3 did end up scoring on their first drive, having sent a catcher up ahead of the pack, the Legion marked her with a BoB. But WoMD3 tossed it right over two BoBs' heads and the catcher, Cute Carol, caught it in a TZ and dodged away to score. That was about the last the WoMD3 were going to see of the ball.
The Legion took possession and mauled their way up the pitch, giving the touchback to a 6spp BoB who only knew how to Block. The girls made a good show of defending, but lacked the firepower to deal with an excess of POW. We scored T8 to make it 1-1.
Second half and receiving, we got a Quick Snap and a kick to the near corner next to the LOS. Our SF blitzer caught it, and the Legion quickly surrounded him. To their credit, the WoMD3 repeatedly made amazing plays to get to the ball carrier and harass him, eventually taking the ball to the ground in the middle of the half. Our AG4 blodger got it back and threatened the late score, but the girls managed to do a bunch of slick dodging to POW it loose, where it bounced around and landed in the hands of a rookie lino.
Err, here's the part where I screwed up and won:
After a couple non-critical blocks away from the play, I figured a troll-blitz 3db (with Block, because Rokhan is just that cool) would be the best play to open up a 1-dodge score, since my rookie lino was in 2 TZ's and each marking player had a back-up to prevent him just blitzing his way out. Well, the RS roll failed, and it actually blocked off my escape route via my second-best option. That left me with a 5+4+3+ to elf my way through the defense to take the win. I burned a reroll doing it, but it worked, and that was the game.
GG Arktoris. That was my orcs' first win against a zon team in 3 tries, and it brings my total record against you up to 2/0/5 with all my losses against the Hellbound Charioteers, who I've never beaten. It was a fun one, and I'm hoping to get a shot at your norsemen again one of these days.”
