“Middenheim Challenge 01/10 - round 3
------------------------------------------------------
This turned out to be a match of many circumstances, rocking back and forth between lucky and unlucky rolls for both coaches. The Desolates seemed stronger on paper, but had a very hard time breaking AV throughout the match and the Zombies Getting the Ref during the first half decimated the orcs enough to prevent an effective stall. Gokkur scored in T7 and the mighty Corpse Eater could sprint in 1-1 in T8 with the help of an extra re-roll on the kick-off.
In the 2nd half Zombies looked to be in a good situation to control and win the match, but the lightning took down the ball carrying Corpse Eater and Gokkur could break through and punt the ball into the Zombies back field. A crucially failed dodge on Corpse Eater looked to give the Desolates the win, but a very fortunate follow-up turn allowed the necro to dodge and bash themselves to an opening for a zombie to blitz down Gokkur. As the last movement during the turn though, the wight Nupo Nes slipped while sprinting and managed to kill himself in the fall.
In OT it looked like circumstances pretty much would hand the victory to the Zombies, with the Desolates missing all their 3 KO rolls while the opponents succeeded with all of theirs, and the zombies also started with the ball. 8 vs 10 with their ST 4 MA 9 ghoul as a ball carrier looked hopeless. What followed was some very lucky turns for the Desolates though. A bit of a careless defense left an opening when Corpse Eater double failed the pick-up, and when he missed the following pick-up too the Desolates were upon him in his own back field. A skirmish appeared and it looked unclear who would win, but a now depleted Corpse Eater, after taking several mighty blows, a lightning bolt and KOing himself in the 2nd half, failed another dodge. Gokkur could quickly snatch up the ball and run in the TD, ending the match.
Thanks for the match, Bill. Luck sure turned during OT. Well, at least in my view. See you around!”
#6 Nupo Nes – Dead (RIP) #11 Mutilated Corpse – Broken Ribs (MNG)
“God I love when I'm the lucky one, which I was according to my opponent. The rip on the wight felt really nice on a GFI. Lost the game in OT to tons of failed 3+ rolls some with rr and some without rr and the opponent past them all without any rrs left. Good thing I was lucky, else this wouldn't have been much of a fight.
Good luck in the rest of the tournament.
See ya
PS. yes, I'm a silly bastard when it comes to talking about luck. I sometimes whine like hell and sometimes I just laugh at it, but when people start questioning if I'm right, then I always get really whiny and that is what happened here.”
