Not only were both teams new, but I had never played wood elves before, and my opponent had never played high elves. A lucky kick and quick speed gave the Shadows a 1-0 lead in my second turn, the Spears responded with a late in the first half score of their own.
The second half was mostly spent shoving each other back and forth on the Shadow's end of the field, before a lucky break popped the ball out. It was scooped up and the wood elf ran for the opposing team's end zone, only to be stopped repeatedly at the last minute, which sent us into overtime.
The players were beat, 2 on each team were unable to retake the pitch. The Spears received the kick but couldn't hold onto the ball as the Shadows swarmed past the line of scrimmage, eager for victory. 2 more Spear players went down, but the remaining ones weren't about to give up and stopped try after try for the end zone. Finally, Thoradnin grabbed up the loose ball and ran it in for the score. Players lined up again for the kick, but both realize there simply wasn't enough time to turn it around.”
“I thought I was in for serious trouble when I lost a td on turn 2. Much to my relief I got a td late in the first half to even it up and make for a tense second half.
I managed to hold the elves for the second half, though I was picking up injuries that would be my downfall later in the game.
The wood elves won this due to better man management of 2d tackles, in the end. Elves are a domino team and once one falls the others come tumbling after. I was pleased that I came close to winning a game with a first time run out, but in the end the better player scraped it.”
