“The game where the Phoenix Ascendant finally hit the ground running - although it started badly with failures to pick up and catch the ball in the back field. But with the Goblins missing 2 players through injury and another locked up by the police, the numbers were for once, with the Elves. And it told when Gold shadow caught a bomb from Fairfalcon to open the scoring.
The Goblins attempted to attack back, but a deep kick from the excellent Starphoenix had then on the back foot and they could only watch in horror as Skyspell intercepted a pass and handed it off to Battlewolf to score. It could have been even worse for Sploooch had Warhawk not missed a pick up at the end of the half.
It didn't get much better for the Goblins in the second half, as another deep kick was attempted to be returned, only for the Goblinpass to be intercepted again by Skyspell. Warhawk atoned for his previous fumble, receiving the hand off from his catcher and running in number 3.
Sploooch did retaliate, injuring Seedjewel (who announced his retirement after the match), and marching half way into the Elves half. Alas, they were unable to successfuly get the ball in hand to their team mates in that position, as the pass was overthrown. The Elves quickly converged on the ball, knocking away the nearby Goblins and allowing Fairfalcon to steal in and throw another pass to Battlewolf, who hovering on halfway, took another tally.
With the Goblins only able to field 4 players due to injuries and a spiked drink on the Troll, they ignored the ball and attempted to damage to Phoenix as much as possible. This did means an injury to Ironsinger, although it was not serious. However, this gave Battlewolf the easy task of running up the pitch to collect the ball once again for his hattrick with the last action of the match.”
