“Mortarian's Guards, battered from their encounter with the ogres of the PHD Juggernauts faced a fully healthy Nordland Nufflers in the second round of the Orcland Wooden Shield. It looked to be a tough match for the Guards as they only had ten players, and Melthas was still recovering from injury and unable to play.
Facing off against the Nufflers, it was soon evident that the Guards' defense were not enough. The Nufflers quickly KO'd 3 Guardsmen, and another followed suit as he tripped trying to secure the ball away from the menacing humans. Outnumbered 11 to 6, there was little the Guards could do, as the Nufflers spread out the remaining Guards and squashed any attempt to fight free. Reduced to elfball tactics, The Guards tried to run around the humans with moderate success, only to be mobbed whenever being in the remote vicinity of the ball. Nathan Lester easily walked in for the score.
The second half was more of the same. Kicking to the Nufflers, the Guards were down 11 to 7. A perfectly timed blitz and a nearly too short kick suddenly made a fight of it, but the Nufflers' skilled blocking soon secured the ball, making for another easy score for them by 'Lights Out' Gary Nixon.
Receiving for the second time did little to help the Guards as Chenthal bobbled the handoff from Felrath. Felrath failed to re-secure the ball and the Nufflres' Merrill 'Lightfoot' Freeman picked it up to score with just a few seconds remaining.
A well played match my GeneralMarauder, although the disparity in numbers and luck made it even more lopsided than I had hoped the game would have been. As I told Flashback13, I think he would have had a better shot at the winning the tourney. Even so, I have to say I think this is probably the least damaging showing for the Guards at an Orcland Wooden Shield. At least this time no one died!”
