“The score does not tell how close this game actually was. I had a 12-10 elf advantage and received the ball first, but could do nothing right. My opponent played extremely well, evening the elfpower on the field advantage very early. Then I foolishly lost the ball and the Academically Challenged elves capitalized with an early score. It was clear to me that my opponent was a better elf coach than I was, so I resorted to what I know best - bashing and outnumbering. It was ineffective and he scored again on T8 of the half. So going into the 2nd half, I'm down 0-2 and kicking off. I thought to myself, at least my team is unhurt and I've made a few SPPs. All I really wanted to do was tie it up. Suddenly the fortunes changed and I got a Blitz! on the kickoff. I made the most of it, and managed to threaten the ball. The ball somehow ended up on the ground (can't remember now) and I had the break I needed. I scored quickly, and now had a significant numbers advantage. I continued to press that advantage, getting another Blitz! and was able to score again. The 3rd score was the result of too few Academically Challenged elves and a dropped pass. At that point, Ganabul started moving his players away from the endzone to open a clear path. We still exchanged a few blitzes, but both of us were leary of leaving players in contact with each other. He managed to get his blitzer kicked out of the game for a foul, and I got 1 final casualty with my Mighty Blow blitzer (just a nice BH) and the game ended 3-2.
As I said, the score does not tell the whole story of this game. This was a tale of two halves, with good coaching (and a bit of bad dice rolling on my part) dominating the first half, and numbers plus good kickoff events (2 Blitzes!) deciding the second half. I bet it was exciting to watch, as we had some spectators. Elf ball at it's finest! Pro Elf catchers and blitzers are very nice players.
Edited: <blush> you're right. The initial numbers advantage was 12-9. I miscounted. Nice comment about 'blue suede shoes', glad someone recognizes 'The King'. I had forgotten about Get the Ref! in the first half. It was a good thing for me that elves usually don't worry about boots to the noggin. Well, except Dark Elves, but they're uncouth.
Skills (2):
Patrick Swayzelf - +AG (that's 2 pro elves with +AG now)
Crowded Treehouse - Dauntless (double 1s)”
“A generous assessment of the first half, where luck more than elf ball skillz delivered the goods. A real pro would have found time to do more than step on Pressleaf's blue suede shoes with GTR in the first half; as it is, he went into the second half angry.
Oh, and it was 12-9, not 12-10 ;)”
