Game 2 for Nahuatl Hegemony
Handicap - Buzzing (Acolhuas)
Very close, exciting game with several turnovers and tense moments. 1st half the field was muddy from Pouring Rain. The Hegemony got a Blitz! on the kickoff and got 2 skinks near the ball. After a bit of wrestling in the mud, Uxmal ended up with the ball and scored. The Hegemony was able to prevent a return score from the Dark Elves in the 1st half. 2nd half the lizards got the ball and tried to have Tlacopan do a pickup. When it failed, we opted to go the sure route with Uaxactun because there was a very scary Blitzer named Simision in our backfield. Here I made my first real mistake by handing off to Seibal and moving him into a position where Simision could blitz him with a single dodge roll. To be fair to myself, there really wasn't anyplace Seibal could have stood and not been reached, but I think I still chose a poor spot. The dark elves got a good bounce and Simision ended up scoring. With 4 turns left, I had enough time to score and even got a Bad Kick on the kickoff result. Unfortunately the accuracy of Hirsunor's leg kept the ball in bounds and DEEP in my half of the field. I again leaned on Uaxactun and his AG 4 to go retrieve the ball and he did. Then I tried to move a skink into scoring position but Fazoom! KO'd him off the field. Calakmul was also sent off with a Broken Jaw and will miss next game. Running out of time, I made a good series of blocks and moved Uaxactun along with his escort, Chitzen Itza into scoring position. Alas, Dark Elf blitzer - Neshamir, was on the job and even though he only got a push (with a reroll, 4 pushes total) he stripped the ball out of Uaxactun's hands (I know who is getting Sure Hands with his next doubles). With the game on the line, Uaxactun bravely dodged into a tackle zone, retrieved the ball, dodged back and attempted to hand off to Chitzen Itza. I needed a 4 and rolled a 3, and had no rerolls left (Catch anyone?) so Itza dropped the easy handoff. Some dark elf nearly hurt himself trying to get the ball and sent it out of bounds, and the game ended in a tie.
The game was fun, the opponent was great, and the gate was solid. Unfortunately, the money was sad and Fazooom! lost a point of FF. I guess the fans wanted more blood.
