#1 Lord Cilifor Treevein – Dead (RIP) #2 Lord Fallin Oakwater – Dead (RIP) #9 Lord Vimyil Leaftender – Broken Ribs (MNG)
“WIBBL Conference - Round 1
The brand new Blackwater High Elf team came storming on to the pitch in their brand new purple and gold armour, shining in the sun, lapping up the crowd's appreciation and all in all feeling pretty good about their chances against a Chaos team with only 2 Warriors and a total of 9 men. Then their introduction to WIBBL League play began.
From the kickoff the ref adjudged that the elves had committed an offence and deemed the Chaos to be recipients of a Perfect Defence setup which they gladly took. The game then proceeded to get worse as a beastman almost overpowered Lord Darkglow and left the elves with no backup should anything else go wrong in their first turn. Sure enough, it did, as Lord Oakwater gashed his hand rather than grabbing the ball and it was time for the Chaos to do their worst.
After some pressure from the beastmen and a Warrior a both down blitz saw Lord Treevein become the first elven casualty of the season, dead on the pitch. This result scared the wits out of his teammates and that was pretty much that from then on in.
Lord Leaftender had his arm fractured by the Chaos Troll and will have to sit out the next game to recuperate and then Lord Oakwater's gashed hand caught up to him as the wound opened up after a block from a beastman and caused him to bleed out too quickly to be tended to. After 5 turns the player count was 9 v 5 in favour of the originally depleted Chaos team.
Some fending off of the elves for the next couple of turns followed by a TD by a beastman saw the elves go into the dressing room at half time 0-1.
A spirited display by the coach however saw the team line back up on the field ready to once again stand tall against their opponents as 2 KO'd elves woke up to make it 9 v 7 in players. After cornering the Chaos the elves managed to stand up against Beastmen and Warriors alike, even KOing a Warrior on a both down block by the Chaos player and finally worked the ball free and into their hands.
Fumbling was the name of the day though as Lord Sandraker broke free but without the coverage that the Chaos had so as to use their quick reactions to catch the fumbled ball Lord Sandraker was on his own and simply let the ball slip through his grasp as he attempted to clear the lines. Some more spirited play by the elves saw Nuffle slap them in the face as they failed several dodges and slipped as they went to make several blocks to allow the Chaos to run a beastman clear of the fray and grab a 2nd TD in their last turn of the game.
In the elves' last turn Lord Sandraker did manage to make a successful pass to gain some experience and Lord Witchbright's hard work didn't go unnoticed as he was awarded the team MVP but it was a sad day overall for the elves as 2 of their brethren are laid to rest and one sits at home in pain attempting to recuperate in time to gain revenge after the next match.
The only way is up from here.
Thank you for the game and well played Wotfudboy.”
My 9 strong chaos faced this fresh and sparklingly new High Elf team in our first League match in Wibbl. We were expecting the elves to dance around the remnants of our team and totally outscore us. However, pied_piper's dice just let him down at every point.
The kick off saw the HE's receive but the chaos team looked strong defensively with Perfect Defence. Not long after, a rerolled 1 dice block, the ball gatherer rolled a 1, and the HE turn was over. The chaos team smothered the elves with pressure... and a both down blitz by the HEs resulted in a dead elf. Ooof! The resulting turn over saw our Troll SI mng another elf, and things were looking decidely dodgey for the pointy eared freaks. Soon, another KO'd elf saw 8 elves left vs 9 chaos... a much more favourable position.
The beastmen soon had the ball under control, and another elf died from a MB/Claw/RSC/Tackle free block. The HE coach was wondering if he'd got halfling and HE armour confused in the dressing room!
By the end of the half the HEs were down 0-1 and had 2 x RIPs and 1xSI, and had 1xKO.
7 brave HEs lined up against the 9 chaos, but they couldn't do much to stop the chaos team pushing forward, despite sustaining two early KO's (incuding the Chaos Warrior ball carrier!) and failing 2 hand offs (leaving them with no RRs left), and getting a beastman crowded and the HEs getting the ball.
The Chaos hand enough wits about them to get the ball back through another bad dice roll from the HEs... and they managed to grab a 2nd TD.
It was a horrible game for the elves, but the Chaos side had been due some luck for some horrible games previously. We are now back up to 10 players, and the FF even went up too. Is this all my luck used up for the season?... we'll have to see.
Thanks for the game piper!
