“First match of the lizzies 6th season, and with a real shot of making a premiership run. The team was stronger than it had been in some time, with a good spread of skills on both saurai and skinks. This, combined with a number of 'softer' teams in the conf and two out of the three rock teams severely understrength, meant that we were quietly confident of a good showing.
This being said, the Lizzies were still coming off the back of several embarrassing showings vs the more agile bloodbowl teams, and the glut of elves in the competition at large meant that Coach Luo was determined to use this season to full advantage, and finally crack the 'Elfin Problem'.
So, while this match didn't offer much in the way of a solution, but it provided glimpses of the way. The first half scoreline was aided immensely by the Really High lads complete lack of pre-season warmup, but they managed to get it together after the break, with some classy blocking taking two Saurai off the field early, followed by a typical elf passing play to level the scores.
With plenty of time on the clock, and the team back at full strength, it looked as though the Lizzies could finally walk away with a win against an elf team...
...but the Elves had finally hit their stride, and some stunning blitzes on nominally 'safe' skink ballcarriers saw the clock run down with neither side posting another point.
Twahnlows
3 pts: #7 Melindi Canar - Ag5, Blodge, MB. Always a danger, from anywhere, and showed why, dodging through a crowd of reptiles to sack the ballcarrier, thus heralding the inevitable drawn scoreline at the end of the match.
2 pts: #6 Moriah Lianesse - another ag5'er, this one with tackle aswell. Always a skink killing threat, and a hardworking blocker.
1 pts: #13 Miranda Loren - for coolly blocking and dodging his(her?) way into the endzone, just in time to catch the spiralling pigskin for a TD.
Well played Smeg. Watching the replay, I should really have scored again in turn 5 of the second half, and just done what I could to stop you levelling. Ah well.. Benefit of hindsight and all that ;)
Good luck next season!”
