“Gold Dragon Reincarnated has been a career-long underachiever, but today he started to atone for his lackluster play. He managed 4 casualties in just 10 blocks, and along with Purple Dragon's 3 cas (on just 7 blocks!) managed to wipe out any rodent-related resistance.
Our first-half drive was a saurus-carrying affair, with 10spp SF saurus Shadow Dragon doing the grunt work. The rats managed to slow us down just enough that we felt better about our odds scoring in T8 than trying to score in T6 and get the ball back, or make unneeded GFIs to try scoring in T5. 1-0 at the half.
Second half we catch a big break. After the rats fielded the ball and retreated with a gutter while receivers advanced, we marked those receivers, hurt a wandering gutter, and closed in on the ball (though it was out of reach). Then the rats failed a dodge and there was a clear path to both the ball carrier and the end zone. We POW'ed the ball-gutter with a non-tackling 3db for a stun. Despite probably an easy stall from there on out, we scored immediately with rookie skink Serene Silver Wyrmling for a skill-up. 2-0.
Our first-half fears prove well-founded, when a not-so-unlucky drive for the skaven results in a score we can't really do anything about; a quick 2-turn job and the skaven press to at least even things up before the end. 2-1.
The Rodents have to kick away to us, nearly out of players by this point, fielding just 5 for the final drive. We quickly reduce that to 3, as we scoop with a skink and advance Shadow Dragon close enough for a safe hand off. Shadow Dragon uses a reroll, but takes the ball for the T16 walk-in and a skill-up of his own. 3-1 Final.
Note: Nearly the entire game was played under GTR conditions for Dracos Parvus. Of the roughly 14 turns of it we had, and with our DP available all game, we only managed 4 fouls. Now I'm not one to make T16 (or even T15 if the game is totally in the bag) fouls, but I certainly take all tactical advantage I can from GTR. There just weren't players around to foul. I swear half the BH's I got and a good chuck of the KOs were players faking to keep away from boot-camp. ;)
GG Griffon31. Your rats left an 8-cas game in surprisingly nice shape. :) (keep that +ST/+AG thrower safe too, and get him some Block ASAP!!)”
