NWFL Regular Season III - Part 2A
Game 4

Handicaps against: It Wasn't Me (Snorri Sturlasson), Iron Man (Claude Monet), Smelling Salts. And for the 3rd straight game, Ambrosio the Mad Monk sat out with a Niggling Injury. We're starting to wonder about this guy's dedication to greatness....

These lizard-artists came to play! I won the coin toss and opted to receive. I managed to get the ball downfield in about 5 turns, with some hitting and positioning. The Lizards were hitting back but several of the Sauruses (Sauri?) were tied up around the LOS and couldn't get to the ballcarrier. However, there were enough Skinks around that I couldn't put down and I decided to score instead of stalling. This may have been a mistake as the Canvas Pros put together a beautiful drive with 3 turns remaining and got into the end zone pretty easily (after removing Berlifitzing and Vladimir Ducasse).

2nd half I kicked off tied 1-1 and was wondering how I was going to get the ball back. Nuffle answered with a Bad Kick, but fortunately it stayed in bounds. The Pros got the ball and began caging up. I immeadiately shifted my defense to their side of the field and waited for my opening. Somewhere along the way, we removed Marcello Bacciarelli and it opened things up so I could knock the ball loose. Loup-Garou fell over trying to go for the ball the first time, but the Lizards did a perfect imitation of the wolf on their own attempt to dodge away for the ball so I got a second chance. He didn't flub the next one and took off down field. The Lizards were not going to let me score that easily, though, and managed to put several cold-blooded warriors on the puppy's heels but they couldn't knock him over. He made a successful dodge away (using his Dodge reroll of course) and raced into the endzone. There was still enough time for the Pros to tie it up so I set up a little less aggressively than the previous kickoff. Nuffle answered with a Blitz! Go figure. The Crusaders collapsed on both sides of the ball and knocked a Saurus over. The Pros picked up the ball and put it into a decent cage, but then took a big chance. Michelangelo the Krox tried to clear a running lane for next turn and double skulled himself to the pitch. The Crusaders pounced on this aggressive opportunity gone wrong and killed poor Johnny Hart (and dislodged the ball). Now there was a mad scramble for the ball with time running out. Raffaello pulled off a brilliant play to dodge away from tacklers, pick the ball up in traffic, and scramble around behind a Saurus. But there were too few scaly bodies on the field to protect him for long and my 2 wights (Uncle Silas and Montoni) quickly descended on poor Raffaello. They knocked him down, but Uncle Silas failed an easy pickup (with a reroll). The Pros covered the ball well and I didn't think I had any chance to score now. However, I managed to pull off a series of good blocks and soon there was only 1 Saurus covering the ball. With time running out, Uncle Silas redeemed himself by picking up the ball in traffic, dodging away and scoring with a GFI!

Very exciting game, SirOrange. At the start of the 2nd half, I thought for sure we'd be playing for the 2-2 tie. I got some very fortunate and timely injuries that I was able to exploit as you were running out of cold-blooded bodies. You still put up a formidable defense and made me work hard for the victory. Good luck to you the rest of the season.
