“The Rodents had their heads on the block as they faced off with Spitits - a quick and developed wood elf team. The Rodents hadn't played a match in a long time because of internal disagreement and were close to quitting. This match could be their last.
The match started with an elven attack. But it was immediately cut short by a stroke of humongous bad luck. Ruffle the Treeman blocked Hrak Grimgnaw (3 dice) but only managed to block himself down. A quick turnover was the result. The ball had scattered near the line of scrimmage so the Rodents were able to quickly run for the ball and grab it away.
Shaark Mongrelsoul went on a quick scoring run afterwards. But unfortunately the elves performed a huge number of wonderful dodges and got off a blitz at Shaark. He was kicked into the dugouts to wait the end of the match. The elves had the ball, but not for long. Their ball carrier was blitzed down by the rats. Score was almost inevitable. Rodents thrower only had to freely pick up the ball and run for the score. Naturally he failed.
But the elves also had their share of the bad luck. Ravanous picked up the ball and started to run away. He only managed to go for the ground and dropped the ball in the process. This time Framak Bonefist was able to grab the ball. The expectionally strong Rat was too big a callenge for the elves to bring down. They did move very well and were almost able to stop the Rats from advancing. But in the end Framak went off on a run for the endzone and scored the first touchdown of the match.
The elves were ready to score again with two more turns remaining in the half. But the crowd thought otherwise. A Riot ensued and took three turns of the clock. This was enough to end the first half.
The Rodents attack on the second half was almost cut down by a perfect defense executed by the Spitits. The Rodents moved the ball to the sidelines, but failed on a simple throw to Hrak Grimgnaw. The elves even managed to pick up the ball afterwards on a successful blitz. But the Rodents also had their share of luck. They blocked the elf players away and finally stole the ball back.
But the elves STILL managed to blitz the ball carrier away against a two die block. Then however it was time for the Rats to perform incredible feats. Khamak Quickfeet picked up the ball from three tackle zones and dodged away. His run was eventually cut short as Idril blitzed the gutter runner down after some good maneuvers by the elf players.
But then came the deciding blow against the elves. Dodger picked up the ball and tried to throw it back into the fray. This throw was intercepted by Gutrat Fleabite. He ran for the touchdown easily.
The elves still had theoretical chances to score the tying touchdown with four turns on the clock. These chances were taken away after a costly fumble in their half. The elves did manage to execute a traditional and effective elf attack to get the 2-1 touchdown. But because of the fumble it took three turns instead of two.
The last drive of the Rodents was a one rats show by Khamak Quickfeet. The ball was delivered to him in spite of a perfect defense by the elves. The adjacent players were blocked away, but Khamak still had to leap to safety. He completed the leap beautifully and ran for the 3-1 touchdown.
The Rodents went home with a wonderful win and got a second chance to keep their team alive. They are still waiting for that horrendous match were they get slaughtered out of their minds. It wasn't this one, but maybe the next one.
