“Vanguard National All*Star Challenge September 2010 - round 1
Won the toss and elected to receive. I had very good blocking in the 1st half and got some early CAS's and KOs, including star hobgoblin Gepid. Jeffro was rolling a lot of pushes early and I was able to stall out til T8. However, there was some excitement as I left an opening to the ballcarrier on T6 instead of scoring. The hobgoblin Kutrigur made a heroic 1-die blitz on Smallpox Jones, stunning him in the process. I had to scramble to move Kutrigur away from the ball and was able to pick it up with Malria Dan who ran it in on T8 with 2 GFIs and no rerolls. My reward was a T8 beating on the LOS that saw Vincent the Virulent get KILLED (but he regenned).
2nd half the Huns were out for some revenge. I got a perfect defense on the kickoff result and used it to reposition my forces. This was a good thing as the Huns would have easily swept my 3 LOS rotters aside without the PD. As it was, Jeffro still got the ball when Shambling Sammy fell on his face trying to get to the ball (failed GFI with a reroll), and stunned himself. Then the pushing war started, and the Huns got some CAS revenge with a BH on Malaria Dan, a MNG on Otto the Oozing, and a RIP on Ralph the Revolting (he regenned). Noxious Niles was doing a great job occupying lots of Huns, providing Guard, using his Tentacles and even throwing a few blocks at key moments. The Huns had a chance to throw a miracle pass on T8 but a rookie hobgoblin fumbled the pickup and Jeffro was out of rerolls. The PPD squad managed to hang onto the 1-0 victory and prevent OT, but it was very close.
Great game, Jeffro. We always have close ones that come down to the wire. Last time you pulled off a last turn score with Gepid, this time I made sure Gepid wouldn't get the chance. Next time it will probably swing your way again.
Skills (0): VP went to the one PPD player I would have preferred it NOT go to. Oh well, at least no one aged.”
