Eventually, a skink broke cover - Finroth Fireblade took him down with assistance from a dodging Werner Wolfchild, and the ball scattered into Werner's reliable hands. The skinks tried to take him down, but failed, and Werner picked out Graham Fasthawk, the former journeyman, with a long pass. He didn't keep it long, downed by a thundering Saurus blitz, but help soon arrived - eventually, Werner himself caught up with play and, weathering another blitz from a muscular skink, scored.

Receiving in the second hand, the Marauders showed overconfidence and left a gap, allowing a blitz on their new Goblin teammate. A scrum ensued, from which the overlarge skink emerged. Finroth again attempted to take him down, but without assistance this time, he didn't succeed. He was bulldozed out of the way, and the skink had an easy score to equalise.
