“Game 1:

The day promised overcast skies...and it delivered with a steady downpour that left the pitch a huge pit of mud. Some think that the scholars from Yale would not do well in such conditions - a drag out slugfest with a full dwarf team. We elected to kickoff and our 10 players took the field against the 11 dwarves. The kick was perfectly placed on the boundary. The mud was indeed challenging as the dwarf runner failed the pickup and the ball was tossed upfield by the crowd. We rushed forward - and soon enough everyone was dogpiling on top of the ball - it squirting out this way and that. We had one great chance, the ball in the open, Stud Muffin (sure handed thrower) had a clear run at it and if he got it, a sure touchdown ahead. Sadly he was fixing his hair instead of looking at the ball and fumbled the pickup. The half ended in a 0-0 draw with the ball never crossing midfield.

The second half we received, but the rain continued and the ball was dropped right on the LOS. We bashed them back and Stud Muffin had a clean chance at the pickup...and failed. The next turn we had another clean chance at pickup and again a failure...and just like the first half, the game became a dogpile and both sides were jumping on the ball. It looked bad when a dwarf blitzer caught the bouncing ball - he could have done a 3+ dodge (had team RR) to try to make it into the clear...but instead bashed and tried to protect the blitzer, a 1d blitz and some pushing of players left the ball in the open...the question was - would anyone step up? Colin A took up the mantle of hero - he raced forward and grabbed the ball and sprinted away towards the endzone...Robbie McFlight (dwarf runner) followed, but Colin was on a mission - he slammed Robbie to the ground and ran onward...Colin scored as time expired and Robbie was taken to the morgue.

Overall, a great battle - we begin the season with a surprise win...hopefully we can build on this and have a successful season!”
