For the third round in a row - we faced a massive orc team. The strength of this team was its mighty blitzers. Nesq was a fearsome blodger with MB PO and tackle. His buddies Crogr and Brail both had MB tackle as well...and ultimately the game would hinge on how they performed in this game.
To start the game, we won the coin flip and elected to kickoff - we figured with our full team we could try to pressure the ball and force an early score or turnover...we mostly dodged away and played back the first 3 turns, then charged in - marking all his players and pressuring the ball. He had some tough decisions to make - and ultimately decided to push for the score. This gave us plenty of time and we countered by feigning to the bottom of the pitch - then darting to the other side through a narrow gap left by the orcs - with a wall in place, there was little they could do and we stalled out the first half and scored to make it 1-1 going into the second half.
We had suffered injuries of course and were down to 11 players left - which was fine as the second half drive should decide the game. However, if it went to OT, we were going to be dreadfully short of players. We received and felt good about our chances, but the Orcs received a blitz...we could see doom as they pressed us sorely...but in an odd move their star blitzer marked some of our players on side of the pitch mostly alone. We pushed in that direction and perhaps the turning point of the game, we executed some chainpushing to surf his best player (just a stun...but off the field). His second best blitzer (after injuring a player) applied some pressure on our ballcarrier, but only had a 1d block (push). We countered by surfing his MB tackle blitzer...2 of the tacklers gone, and the third pinned against the sidelines. We pushed forward - had only 1 turn of weakness, then we would have the game...but during that thin opening, the orcs struck and a 2d block with RR got them a POW to take out our AG 4 blodger (KO). We were able to pick up and hand off the ball and raced to the endzone - we stalled for 3 turns and then scored the winning TD. The TTM attempt failed for the orcs and we were off once again to celebrate our upset of another mighty orc team!
Thanks for the game and good luck with your team.”
