“The final game of the WIL Premier season saw the Miners take on the Trumps of Amber, who were going for the title.
The Miners decided to receive, having heard the news that, despite their best attempts, all the Wood Elves had turned up for the game. The Miners quickly secured the ball and began their long march down the field, removing Elves as they went. The Elves did what they could to hinder progress, but with their numbers dwindling they could not stop the score for 1-0. With only time for an very quick reply the Elves lined up with quick snap putting their catcher in range, but with only AG3 he was going to take some luck to dodge through the Dwarven line. Luck they had though, as the score became 1-1.
Into the second half and the Elves quickly drove deep into the Dwarven half of the pitch. With the casualties taken the chance of a risjy stall was declined, and they took the lead for 1-2. All they had to do now was hold out the Dwarves, but as the Dwarves marched once more down the pitch it was looking unlikely. With a heavy melee taking place, they did have a brief chance, but could not take it as the Dwarves pushed forward to near the end zone. Suddenly it was T16, the Dwarven Runner was 1 square from the end zone, needing a GFI and with no reroll. The crowd held their breath as a final surge took him over the line to tie the game 2-2.
Now all that was required was for the Miners fellow Dwarves to win their game and the title would be going to the Dwarves this season. Perhaps not to the Miners, but perhaps better to another clan than into the overfull trophy cabinet of the Wood Elven treetops.
Thanks for the game Pete, best of luck for the cup!”
