Well now. Ogres haven't played like this in a while. Ogres went out and hung tough all game. We took an early BH to an ogre, starting out down 3 of them already from our tourney start of 10 (1 RIP and 2 MNG from the first round), so we played most of the game with 6 ogres and a ragtag bunch of snots.
First half, on offense, we get the ball with Fleen the Might, our general heavy-duty ball carrier, and got ourselves stonewalled at midfield. We lost the ball, then handed to a snot to TTM clear of the fray, where only BoB-dodges could threaten. The snot went right into the crowd though, and the ball tossed from sideline to endline and back to midfield, by the orcs. They failed to pick it up though, and our ogres mushed a path up to the ball and Fleen took it away. After taking 4 dice of PUSH, we managed to get him parked couple squares from the end zone, we walled him off and were a sure thing to score...kinda. The orc blitzer, Glashnak, managed to free up JUST enough to -2db POW/PUSH-POW Fleen, and the ball fell at the sideline. A simple push, and a snotling could 3+2+ to score. Of course, we needed a reroll on the pickup, and failed the GFI. Dammit Frankie, pay attention in practice! 0-0 at the half
On defense, we caught a break. The orcs tried to advance, but the ball...not so much. We quickly tossed our secret weapon, Nicky Smiles, the best snotling ever (I challenge anyone to link me a better one), over the orcs, where he picked the ball out from under the orc thrower's nose, and Sprinted away to the goal line with it. Nicky knows his <censored> though, and he didn't screw up the score. 1-0 Titans, and we're feelin' good!
The orcs' next drive was much cleaner. We still managed a little tackle-breaking scariness and took the ball to the ground one, but our biggest accomplishment was convincing them to score in T7, giving us two turns to score. 1-1, but we're still hopeful.
You see, Nicky is a weapon. A non-factor Pitch Invasion doesn't hamper Fleen from delivering the ball to Nicky, and he takes it to the end zone with a GFI to spare! 2-1, now we just have to sweat the orcs' attempt to TTM right back.
To make a long story short (too late!), we held on to win.
Tactical decision that won me the game: Apo on Nicky when he was just BH. Totally the right play.
GG Toriel. I caught all the breaks I needed to catch in this one.
Next Up: Cowardly Calcium's Compounds, a rat team coached by KenThis. We expect a totally different game this time around. With 2 snots out and 2 ogres back from injury, we'll be a lot different, too.”
