Nuffle teased me slightly on turn 8 of the half, with my opponent kicking to me, and a reasonable 1 turn score available he hits me with a pitch invasion. Naturally that threw that scheme out the window. Second half begins with my team only down by one player as he kicked off it was 9 vs 10. By the time I scored on turn three I had managed to remove one of the dreaded mummies from the pitch, and things looked optimistic for at least a tie. With any luck, my defense could hold and I might even be able to pull out the win.
With my opponent caged up on the sidelines near the mid pitch sideline, there was an opportunity on the ball as a failed handoff left the offense vulnerable. With too many tackle zones on the ball to make a reasonable play, I tried to block a player into the ball and hope for a friendly bounce. Friendly it was not, and it ended up in the hands of the sidestepping, blodging, fend ghoul. Ghouls are not meant to live long enough to acquire this many spp.
As things so often do, the match came down to the last turn. With only one possible way to stop the score, my rookie wolf was forced to dodge, and blitz the blodging monstrosity. Thankfully the dodge went off fine, the first block came up as both down, reroll gives me the 6 I need and the ghoul is removed from the pitch. This left my opponent having to blitz with his mummy with a break tackle dodge, then dodge his wight, pick up the ball, and possibly 2 gfis all without a reroll. My hear started to sink until the moment of elation of the failed pickup.
Good times.”
