One thing I must mention: These norsemen are preternaturally tough. I played them recently with my dwarfs, and now with my respectably-bashy dark elves, and they emerge from both games with nary a scratch on their 7-armor-ish hides.
We took the ball in the first half managed a long, but not long enough scoring drive. We took some damage en route, but with a deep bench, we rode out some early damage and a first turn ejection-by-ref (3-skill DP just isn't worthwhile these days...that dude is SO fired). Tricky ball handling let us disrupt their scoring attempt, as a risky "pass to the non-SS guy in the end zone" fails, but they decide to improve their chance to score rather than go for the surf. It came damn close (too close, really) but didn't quite manage the score.
Second half, against a slightly depleted-by-LOS-bashing team, the Charioteers did break through and score. To their credit, I've never seen them stall for a tie, though they might have been able to this time. We had a chance to win it or lose it.
Final drive was a doozy. We busted through the middle of the defense and squeezed players through as our witch went back for the ball. We managed a hand-off to midfield and a run past, followed by bringing a screen through with us. Not content to score and give the speedy Charioteer runners 2 turns to score (or even 1, frankly), we boxed ourselves into a shrinking cage to hold off to the end. We very nearly failed to score, too, as Black Laser marked our ball carrier, and our witch just needed to push him away to walk in for the game-winner. {Both-Down/Skull}...hmm...{reroll--Both-Down/Both-Down}...uh oh...2+ dodge (no rr) to win it?...PHEW!
GG Arktoris. As always.”
