Despite what seemed like a good start for the Salopians - a touchback and a free RR - the game was not to turn out in their favour.
Their advance seemed as though it had been stopped dead in its tracks halfway through the first half, and they felt forced to hand over to a skink (as compared to the saurus who had been carrying the ball) who promptly put the foreign object on the ground. They managed to recapture the ball soon enough, but a crucial failed 2d block (used their last RR, failed again) left their position in shatters. But, despite several dice on the skink with the ball, the Salopians stayed in possession as they positioned themselves for a 2 GFI TD with the potential of a handoff to another skink.
However, it was not to be, as a lone marauder went for it twice (to push the skink out of TD range), POWd the poor skink who was stunned. The Salopians were in poor position to recoup, and with a pick-up, 2 GFI and a handoff (look mom, without RRs!) the score was now 1-0 in the Gentlemen's favour as both teams headed onto the 2nd half with the Gentlemen receiving.
2nd half started out in a questionable fashion for the Gentlemen who quickly burned a RR on a failed block only to see the turn end on another failed block shortly thereafter, followed by geckos streaming downfield and a skink that dodged into a TZ to pick up the ball. 8 dice (2 blocks and a blitz with RR) and a both down later the skink was KO, leaving the Salopians with just 1 lone skink, which proved to be inadequate.
Darwin who was considered extremely fit proved his own theory wrong as he failed to survive a double both down result against Gorm Bellyslasher, adding scorn to injury (or injury to scorn in this case, I guess).
The Salopians are left to question their further success in the Division as their Guard krox is no longer with them, while the Gentlemen continue on - vindicated by the dice and their righteous cause.
Props to Hitonagashi for taking the temperamental dice in good humour!”
