The first half was a typical orc grind, slowly advancing the cage over the field to score in turn 8. Luckily, after that, my opponent's set up wasn't too solid, allowing an easy chainpush for the one-turner (although I got lucky there with 3 gfi's in the snow!) resulting in the 1-1 score at halftime.
The second half started with what seemed to be a disaster when my wardancer snaked after dodging away from a block/skull blitz and ko'd himself in the process. But actually it was all part of a cunning plan to lure the orcs forwards, which they did indeed. The ball was still safe somewhere midfield and in my next turn I blitzed a hole through the orc wall and managed to squeeze 3 or 4 players through. I consequently managed to stal until turn 5, when the pressure was getting too high and my nerves of steel broke --> 2-1 with still three orc turns to go.
Then, at the next kick-off, a menhir from outer space suddenly hit Arafinwe, the only remaining original member of the team, sadly and prematurely ending his promising career. Still wondering where that rock came from, the elves got bypassed by the orcs (Arafinwe was holding a flank that was completely open all of a sudden). The greenskins managed to put themselves in a reasonable position to score the equalizer in turn 8, but then the elves pulled off what they do best: leaping to the ballcarrier and stripping the ball out of his hands! The thing went into the crowds and was thrown back by an enthousiastic elf fan to land next to my catcher, who picked it up and ran away to safety. The rest is history. It was the only turn of the whole second half in which a reroll was used (for both teams!).
A shame about the menhir though...
Entertaining game against a friendly coach playing his very first match in the new client, and got unfortunately confronted with the fact that you need to select a hand-off at the beginning of the action. Back in January the same thing happened to me, only it wasn't in a tournament (and it was just to throw a completion anyway)...”
