Very good game. I started with the ball but had completely missed out on the fact of the Reikland Weavers having hired a wizard for this game, and so my first attempt at scoring was obliterated in a fireball. This started a couple of frantic turns with both sides scrambling for the ball. A lot of running, passing, blitzing, failing plays, and the ball changing hands over and over.

Finally, when it looks like the Weavers are about to score, with agile thrower Peter Howy getting his hands on the ball, and lightning-fast catcher Dove Stonehand waiting in the endzone. What the Weavers didn't see coming though, was that the ball passed over elven team captain Innovindil Naïlo's head. Her catlike reflexes kicking in, Innovindil leaps into the air with astonishing grace and snatches the ball from its arc. Well-trained line elf Azaian Talarenon reacts immediately and blitzes a clear path for Innovindil, who proceeds to pass the ball to Wardancer Andariel Mifune. Unfortunately, the swift Andariel gets intercepted and blitzed on his way to the endzone, and the ball drops to the grass.
As the humans rush in to secure it though, Machin Shin, the Black Wind, appears seemingly out of nowhere, picking up the ball in front of the sprinting blitzers, blasts his way clear, and makes off for the endzone leaving only prone players in his wake. 1-0.

The humans are quick to reply though. With only two turns left of first half the Reikland Weavers smashes through the elven lines, and iron-clad catcher Rich Silverwing eventually scores. 1-1, and the Weavers set to start with the ball in second half.
Here, coach KillerJojje opts for the same tactics, smashing up a hole and letting his speedy catchers do the rest. The elves are prepared this time though, and the breakthrough stalls. The ball, after some serious pressure being put on ballcarrier Rich Silverwing who is forced to a premature pass, eventually ends up in a jumble of elves, humans and ogre halfway between the line of scrimmage and the Hiten Mitsurugi endzone. It remains there for one turn as both sides scramble for it, but eventually Andariel Mifune sees his chance to redeem himself for his knockdown during first half. Machin Shin blitzes the ogre Bobbh´kralh with a high-flying dropkick, and the audience gasps in disbelief as the hulking behemoth is pushed back and staggered. Andariel sees the opening, sweeps in as lightfooted as ever, picks up the ball in stride, dodges clear, and throws an easy quick pass to waiting catcher Isionia Tinúviel, who sprints off to the endzone without anyone standing a chance to lay a hand on her. 2-1.

The Weavers bite the bullet and go at it again, but it seems they get a little too eager this time. Rather than pulling the ballcarrier back too far, he hovers just within blitzing range. Andariel Mifune, more than making up for his blunder during first half sees the opportunity and nods quickly to Isionia Tinúviel, who sprints through to distract the human catcher guarding the ballcarrier, the grimly determined Peter Howy. Andariel dashes across the field, hurls himself through the air and slams his foot into the chest of the thrower, landing easily on his feet and grabbing the ball as the human goes down. Brilliant play, but scoring would not be quite so easy. Andariel and Isionia are isolated behind the Weaver line. Blitzer John Van Klaus sprints in toward them, his eyes blazing. Andariel spins around to face him, and Peter Howy, getting back to his feet, sees his chance. Payback time. His knee connects squarely with Andariel's back, hurling the slender elf through the air. Catcher Ulomar "Eel" Eelomar grabs the ball as Andariel drops it, and sprints off, aiming a pass for Rich Silverwing who stands downfield, eager to score. She is distracted by line elf Alexandria Valtherion though, and the ball slips through her fingers.

Azaian Talarenon, always at the ready, blitzes and throws Rich Silverwing clear. Innovindil Naïlo, ever the playmaker, sees an opening in the Weaver line, and yells a command. The rest is like clockwork. Alexandria scoops up the ball, runs upfield and passes it to Merenwen Astarii, who sprints on ahead, circumnavigating the human defense players, and hands the ball to watchful Lothenar Antari. The line elf wastes no time and runs for the endzone like only an elf can run, with Machin Shin and Isionia Tinúviel covering him. The more heavily-built humans simply can't catch up, and Lothenar scores. 3-1.

KillerJojje's team isn't quite out yet, though. Dove Stonehand, feeling cheated from first half, is set on scoring, if so only to show the elves that they aren't the only ones who can run. She gets the ball, and takes off, rushing for the elven endzone as if in flight. Many elves are forced to give up their pursuit - but not Andariel Mifune. He overtakes the quick human just as she is about to enter the endzone, and sweeps her legs out from under her. Dove crashes to the ground, and the ball coming to a halt just beside her. Machin Shin, following right behind Andariel, runs by and grabs it, a sympathetic look on his face for the valiant attempt.
It turns out, though, that Dove Stonehand is not quite out of tricks. She kicks out with her powerful legs and trips up Machin Shin, who, although he manages to land gracefully, loses his grip of the ball. Before anyone can stop her, Dove is back up, grabs the ball a split-second before Andariel, and stumbles into the endzone, exhausted. 3-2, and the game is over.

So.. good game. When KillerJojje, true to his name, killed my guarding line elf on his first turn and used up my apotechary I figured the match could well turn into a nightmare, but lo and behold, the only casualty following it was a SI, not-all-that-important line elf. Not all bad. Thanks for the game, KillerJojje.
